A Friday, Oct. 5 tri-tip and chicken dinner and auction will help organizers raise funds to pull off the popular annual Journey to Bethlehem event.

Grace Community Christian Church in Ceres is putting on the 16th annual Christmas event under the direction of Bob Blackburn who takes over from Pat Mason. To raise the expected $10,000 needed for the program, the church is hosting a $25 per plate dinner which includes a silent and live auction with items that include Disneyland tickets. The event is open to the public and space is limited. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. at the Ceres American Legion Memorial Building, corner of Ninth and Lawrence streets. Tickets are available at the church office, 3754 E. Service Rd., Mondays through Thursdays during normal business hours. Or persons may call 531-1902 to buy tickets.

"This is a great opportunity for the community to support Journey to Bethlehem as well as to have a fun evening," said Blackburn. "Unfortunately, the costs associated with the production of Journey to Bethlehem have increased every year."

The Journey to Bethlehem event is regionally known and allows persons to experience the pilgrimage of Joseph and Mary for the birth of the Christ child as told in the Bible. The interaction experience is recreated at the Grace church parcel southeast of Ceres in late November and early January. The event dates set are Nov. 29 and 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 6-8.

"It is just one way that we live up to our church motto to 'Love God, Love people and Serve the World,'" said Blackburn.

The Ceres Lions Club will be barbecuing the meat to be served on Oct. 5.
