Eleven members of the Ceres Hawks Wrestling Club competed at the California USA Kids Freestyle State Championships, June 1-3, at Fresno's Selland Arena.
"I'm very happy with the results," head coach Jorge Saucedo said. "There was really good competition there this year."
Osbaldo Manzo placed first in the Schoolboy-210 division.
"Unfortunately, there was nobody in his weight class," Saucedo said. "He was a little bummed out he couldn't participate in the tournament. He practiced hard and showed up. He earned it."
Claudia Martinez compiled a 1-2 record en route to a third-place finish in the Schoolgirls-98 division.
She beat EB Wrestling Club's Audrianna Gonzales (fall-6-0, 0:21).
Martinez lost to Hoopla Freestyle Wrestling Club's Daisy Reece (decision-3-2, 0-6, 3-1) and Palomino Academy's Martina Valdez (decision-3-0, 1-0).
Severo Vazquez placed fourth in the Schoolboy-152 division. He posted a 1-2 record.
Vazquez beat Christopher Rojas of the San Fernando Tigers (decision-2-1, 6-1).
He lost to Rebel Wrestling Club's Montana Torres-Helm (fall-6-3, 0:44) and Team Orangevale Wrestling's Eric Schwark (fall-0:20).
Ethan Rotondo (3-1) placed fifth in the Schoolboy-77 division.
Rotondo beat No Mercy School of Wrestling's Oscar Nellis (decision-4-1, 5-0), Silverbacks Wrestling Club's Adrian Gonzalez (decision-0-2, 2-2, 2-1) and Rebel Wrestling Club's Vincent Tabarez (fall-5-0, 0:31).
He lost to Wan-Tu-Wazuri's Ronald Thompson (fall-6-0, 3-6, 0:41).
Luis Saucedo (2-3) placed sixth in the Schoolboy-91 division.
Saucedo beat Prodogy's Jamal Smith (fall-1:13) and Canyon Springs' Ethan Diaz (fall-6-0, 0-2, 1:34).
He lost to Visalia Impact's Ivan Aguirre (fall-3-0, 1:45), Oxnard Sting's Jeremy Trinh (fall-1:39) and Smashmouth's Preston Scharf (decision-6-3, 8-2).
Austin Hunt (1-3) placed eighth in the Bantam Boys-70 division.
He beat CLAW Wrestling's Josue Salazar (technical fall-7-3, 6-0).
Hunt lost to Fresno Knights Academy's Brandon Ramirez (fall-7-0, 0:13), Scotsmen Wrestling Club's Drake Thomas (fall-7-1, 1:06) and Wild Bear Wrestling's Roman Mendez (decision-4-2, 0-0, 6-0).
Hawk teammates Gabriel Bargas (2-2), Julian Rosales (0-2), Sebastian Saucedo (0-2), Adrian Ortiz (0-2) and Jose Castillo (0-2) did not place.
Bargas beat Hoopla Freestyle Wrestling Club's William Alvarado (fall-1:29) and Future Wrestling's Bryce Yamamoto (fall-0:22) in the Intermediate Boys-60 division.
