Benicia tops CHS in tennis

Benicia eliminated Ceres High from the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II Boys Tennis Playoffs last week.

The Valley Oak League runner-up Bulldogs fell 9-0 on Tuesday, May 6 to the Solano County Athletic Conference champion Panthers in the opening round.

"It was a good way to end the season even though we lost," said coach Brian de la Porte, whose team participated in the playoffs for the second straight year. "It was a big accomplishment just to get back there. The rest of the teams in the VOL would love to be where we're at."

Ceres High dropped six singles and three doubles matches to Benicia.

Mike Hundal lost 6-1, 6-0 to Teddy Chung at No. 1 singles.

Aaron Salazar lost 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 to Travis Perrin at No. 2 singles.

Harman Bains lost 6-3, 7-5 to James Go at No. 3 singles.

Raul Massie lost 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 to Elliot Carlson at No. 4 singles.

Jose Cortes lost 6-0, 6-1 to David Dunn at No. 5 singles.

Danny Martinez lost 6-1, 7-5 to Josh Rubin at No. 6 singles.

Wilson Liang and Brian Moreno lost 6-2, 6-1 to Michael Jee and Alex Laguet at No. 1 doubles.

Jesus Cisneros and Edgar Cabrera lost 6-0, 6-0 to Hyuag Phouasalit and John Saltz at No. 2 doubles.

David Gutierrez and Will Richards lost 6-1, 6-3 to Danyal Khan and Mark Espirito at No. 3 doubles.
