Boys waterpolo team extends winning streak

The Ceres High boys water polo team extended its winning streak to three games with a 15-6 victory over Modesto High in Ceres on Thursday.

Joey Rossi scored a game-high eight goals, Markus Richter tallied two, and Eric Scudder, Mike Polovin, Cody Frampton, Kyle Fliflet and Vitaly Polovin each had one for the Bulldogs, who improved to 9-2 in the Modesto Metro Conference.

"We'd beaten them three times already, including once at a tournament," said Ceres coach Sonja Raynes.

"They didn't even challenge us this time."

Ceres goalie Justen Harper finished with 12 saves.

"He had an excellent game," Raynes said.

Daniel Chin had a team-high three goals, and Lance Casey and Cody Hardman each scored once for the Panthers, who fell to 6-5 in the league standings.

Ceres outscored Modesto 6-0 in the first quarter, and led 11-1 at halftime.

"My guys were taking advantage of every mistake," Raynes said.

Dawgs top Spartans

Ceres High defeated Davis 14-8 in Modesto on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Scudder scored a game-high nine goals, Mike Polovin added three goals, and Richter and Jason Weststeyn each had one goal for the Bulldogs.

Harper blocked eight shots.

Brian McGrew had five goals, and Jordan Haueter, Stephan Mason and Dallas Haueter each had one goal for the Spartans, who fell to 2-8 in the league standings.
