Bulldogs edge out Raiders

Diana Salgado and the Ceres High School frosh-soph girls basketball team defeated Central Catholic 33-28 in Western Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, Feb. 1 in Modesto.

Salgado posted a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals while starring at point guard. She also dished out four assists.

"I'm impressed with how she's playing," Bulldogs head coach Kassi Baker said. "She's doing a great job."

Ceres High teammates Haley Fisicaro, Breanna Freitas, Dia Borden, Alisa Couvson, Lindsey Moon and Laura Story have stepped up as well.

Fisicaro had eight points, five points, three steals and one assist against the Raiders last week.

Freitas tallied six points, 11 rebounds and one steal.

Dia Borden collected three points, two assists and two steals.

Alisa Couvson totaled two points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Moon added four points.

Laura Story grabbed eight rebounds.

Ceres High outplayed Central Catholic in the first and third quarters. The Bulldogs held a decisive 24-12 scoring advantage.

"We ran our offense and our shots were falling," Baker said. "We worked together."

The Bulldogs won the first meeting between the two teams, 35-33, on Jan. 6 at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium. Salgado had 16 points.

Ceres High (5-4) will travel to Patterson on Thursday. The WAC game will begin at 6 p.m.
