Bulldogs win again in tennis

Ceres High's varsity boys tennis team notched Valley Oak League victories over East Union and Sonora last week.

The second-place Bulldogs (5-1) shut out the Lancers 15-0 on Thursday in Manteca.

Ceres swept all nine singles and four doubles matches.

Luis Ochoa maintained his perfect conference record with easy wins over Josh VanderWerff (6-0), Chris Narvios (6-1) and Tyler Ward (6-2).

Mike Hundal defeated VanderWerff 6-4, Narvios 6-0 and Ward 6-1.

Aaron Salazar defeated VanderWerff 6-4, and Narvios and Ward by identical scores of 6-2.

Jose Cortes and Raul Massie edged Jose Lopez and John Clawson 10-7, and beat Jacob Joaquin and Zack Benedetti 10-4.

Harmon Bains and Wilson Liang bested Lopez and Clawson 10-3, and Joaquin and Benedetti 10-7.

The Bulldogs won eight of nine singles and two of four doubles contests during their 11-4 triumph over the visiting Wildcats on Tuesday, March 18.

Ochoa made quick work of Erik Segerstrom (6-0), Luke Burgen (6-1) and Chris Sanchez (6-0).

Hundal upset Segerstrom (6-4), and took care of business against Burgen (6-2) and Sanchez (6-0).

Salazar collected victories against Burgen (6-4) and Sanchez (6-2) after losing to Segerstrom (6-3).

Cortes and Massie teamed up to beat Daniel Howard and Dylan Burns (10-3), and Jason Biehl and Andrew Reyes (10-6).

The doubles tandem of Bains and Liang lost to Howard and Burns (10-6), and Biehl and Reyes (10-8).

Ceres High will play host to Weston Ranch on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs won the first meeting in Stockton earlier this season.
