With several matches remaining during the Ceres High-Central Valley varsity wrestling dual meet, Bulldog senior Wesley Schwieger glanced at the scoreboard and made the slow walk back to his seat inside Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

Schwieger's win put Ceres High ahead 12-9 earlier in the evening.

The Hawks won eight of the final 10 bouts in posting a 45-21 victory over the Bulldogs in front of a large crowd last Wednesday.

Central Valley beat Ceres High for the first time in two years.

"I'm not going to lie," Schwieger said. "It's extremely disappointing. It's embarrassing. We'll see them at league (finals) though."

Evan Elliott's second-round pin (3:39) of Anthony Cleveland at 189 pounds gave the Hawks an insurmountable 36-21 lead.

"That feels good to know," Elliott said. "It wasn't an easy victory. He was a tough guy."

Josh Beckhart escaped with a 1-0 victory over Ruben Sanchez in the 215-pound division.

James Jackson pinned Victor Cruz in the first round (1:34) at 285 pounds.

Anthony Centeno held on for a 9-5 win against Raj Singh at 145 pounds.

Jaime Lomeli pinned Nick Moran with 0.7 seconds remaining in the second round of their 152-pound bout.

Jamie Tadeo pinned Bradley Bruton in the second round (2:42) at 160 pounds.

Central Valley's Michael Manzur, Alex Alvarez, Abel Medina and Nestor Berumen were also victorious.

Manzur won 5-0 against Joey Bettencourt at 103 pounds.

Alvarez pinned Brandon Christeson in the second round (2:46) at 119 pounds.

Medina pinned Gabriel Solis in the second round (3:00) at 130 pounds.

Berumen defeated Erick Garcia 10-4 at 135 pounds.

Schwieger, Gabe Balderas, Andrew Cefre and Nick Serratos accounted for Ceres High's individual victories.

Wesley pinned Vince Martinez in the third round (4:30) at 125 pounds.

Balderas pinned Jeff Phetsomphou in the second round (3:56) at 112 pounds.

Cefre pinned George Youkhana in the first round (1:00) at 140 pounds.

Serratos earned a hard-fought 6-3 win over Josue Hernandez at 171 pounds.

The Hawks have enjoyed a 2-0 start to the WAC dual meet season.

The Bulldogs dropped to 0-1 in the league standings.

"It was an awesome win but we're not going to let it go to our heads," Elliott said. "I've been a part of this team for four years. We have been working so hard. We're a lot more dedicated, focused and disciplined this season. We have momentum."
