Ceres High graduated seniors Brandon Gresham, Derrick Goblirsch and Hector Reyes played in the 16th Annual Modesto Sunrise Rotary All-Star Baseball Classic on Saturday at John Thurman Field in Modesto.

The trio suited up for the East, which lost 8-7 in nine innings to the West

Gresham started in left field. He went 1-for-2 from the plate with a triple, run and RBI.

Goblirsch played first base and pitched. He went 1-for-2 and struck out four batters in three innings of relief.

Reyes played third base. He collected three hits.

"It's sad knowing it was my last baseball game," Gresham said. "But at least I know I had fun. And I went out big."

Gresham enjoyed playing in front of 1,100 fans. He said the experience was phenomenal.

"I was nervous," Gresham said. "As the game progressed, I felt confident in myself. And I felt really good after that triple."

Gresham, Goblirsch and Reyes were teammates at Ceres High School for four years, including two years at the varsity level. They also played together and/or against each other at the youth level.

"It was nice we got to play together one last time," Gresham said.

Central Catholic's Jared Lomeli scored the game-winning run. The Ceres resident doubled and scored on a single in the top of the ninth inning.

Ceres' Jared Lomeli, Blake Trinkler and Wade Hurst helped lead the Central Catholic baseball team to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V crown.

The Raiders defeated Le Grand 8-3 on May 30 at Tony Zupo Field in Lodi.

The victory helped Central (25-3) secure its sixth straight championship and third straight Division V title.

"It meant a lot that I could go out there and end my career on a good note," Lomeli said.

Lomeli, a senior, missed half of the season after having wrist surgery. He started at second base and pitched against Le Grand.

Down 3-0, Lomeli relieved starting pitcher Rueben Ramos in the third inning. He allowed just three hits and struck out two batters over 42/3 innings.

Lomeli also scored a run.

Trinkler, a junior, went 2-for-2 from the plate with a homer, double, run and RBI. He hit a solo home run over the fence in left field in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Raiders a 5-3 lead.

Hurst, a senior center fielder/second baseman, accounted for Central's second run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Raiders led 4-3 heading into the fifth inning. - By DALE BUTLER / Staff reporter of the Ceres (Calif.) Courier
