The Ceres High baseball team had a rough year.
"You don't expect to win only three games all year," said Ceres coach Tim Williams. "It's disappointing."
The Bulldogs placed last in the Central California Conference standings with a 1-17 record and went 3-25 overall.
"We could never get on a roll," Williams said.
Ceres lost its final 20 games, including 16 straight in league. The Bulldogs batted .213 with runners in scoring position.
"The pitching for the most part was good," Williams said. "We just weren't able to hit the ball and play a full seven innings of defense."
Turlock 13, Ceres 1
Ceres collected just three hits and committed two errors during its season-finale loss to Turlock at Ceres High School on Saturday.
The game was stopped in the sixth inning due to the 10-run slaughter rule.
"We made a couple of errors and they put some hits and a few walks together and scored," Williams said.
Turlock had 13 hits and made no errors in the game.
Turlock scored one run in the top of the second inning, six in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth. Tyler Riddick belted a three-run homer for the visiting Bulldogs.
Ceres scored its lone run in the bottom of the first inning.
Turlock 10, Ceres 0
Friday's contest at Turlock High School lasted just five innings.
Turlock scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning and seven in the fourth.
Mike Kramer went 2-for-2 from the plate with three RBIs for the host Bulldogs. Shaun Wahid and Pete Lindbeck each had two RBIs. Evan Lucas had two hits and one RBI.
Ceres collected just two hits off Turlock pitcher Ryan Mitchell.
Looking to the future
Williams is looking forward to next season. He'll coach some of his current and incoming players this summer.
"There's really no time to sit around and mope," Williams said. "We get two weeks off and then start summer ball."
The Bulldogs will lose seven players to graduation.
