Ceres High's boys and girls swimming teams won their Valley Oak League openers at home against Weston Ranch on Friday.

"Overall, it was a good meet for us," Bulldogs coach Sue Garcia said.

Competing with just a four-player roster, Ceres' boys placed first in 10 events on their way to a 64-40 victory over the Cougars.

"Our goal was to win every event that we were entered in. And we did," Garcia said. "That guaranteed us victory."

The Bulldogs were led by Tony Chavez, Aaron Torres, Vincent Wester and Aaron Cunningham.

Chavez took first in the 200 free (2:40.87) and 100 free (1:05.94).

Torres took first in the 200 IM (2:23.80) and 100 fly (1:09.24).

Wester took first in the 50 free (24.16) and 100 back (1:06.86).

Cunningham took first in the 500 free (7:01.52) and 100 breast (1:23.13).

The 200 medley relay team of Torres, Cunningham, Wester and Chavez took first (1:53.91). They improved their previous best time by 12 seconds.

The 400 free relay team of Torres, Cunningham, Chavez and Wester took first (4:09.49).

Jayme Westbrook and Kelly Yoder each won two events to lead the girls team to a 123-39 victory.

Westbrook took first in the 200 IM in a career-best time of 2:59.53 and 100 breast in 1:29.10.

Yoder took first in the 50 free (30.23) and 100 free (1:08). She improved her 100 free time by 3.5 seconds.

Aimee Bautista took first in the 200 free (2:31.93) and second in the 100 free (1:09.18). She improved her 200 free time by seven seconds.

Sarah Walters took first in the 100 back (1:23.16) and second in the 200 free (2:37.08). She improved her 100 back time by two seconds.

Laura Goblirsch took first in the 500 free (7:24.76) and third in the 100 breast (1:39.70). She improved her 500 free time by 11 seconds.

Ariel Hagel took first in the 100 fly (1:45.10).

Tiffany Burnett took second in the 500 free (8:37.66) and third in the 200 IM (3:19.74).

Leanna McConnell took second in the 100 back (1:30.47) and third in the 50 free (32.00).

Jonny Rodriguez took second in the 100 fly (1:45.17).

Devyn Dollard took third in the 500 free (8:54.98).

Devyn Dollar improved her 500 free time by 30 seconds

Priscilla Torres took fourth in the 200 free (3:30.16).

Tiffany Maksoud took fourth in the 200 IM (3:44.09).

Brittany Lusk took fourth in the 50 free (34.72).

Rebecca Gee took fourth in the 100 breast (1:47.04).

Ariel Alonzo took fifth in the 100 back (1:53.79) and sixth in the 100 free (1:28.81).

Alonzo, Maksoud, Torres, McConnell, Burnett, Hagel garnered praise from their head coach.

"We put some kids in races that they're not used to. And they came through in flying colors," Garcia said.

The 200 medley relay team of Sarah Walters, Jayme Westbrook, Ashleigh Gresham and Kelly Yoder took first (2:24.30).

The 200 medley relay team of Leanna McConnell, Laura Goblirsch, Ariel Hagel and Rebecca Gee took third (2:42.64).

The 200 free relay team of Aimee Bautista, Gresham, Westbrook, Yoder and Aimee Bautista took first (2:06.23).

The 200 free relay team of Gee, Tiffany Burnett, Brittany Lusk and Aimee Gunzenhauser took second (2:21.76).

The 400 free relay team of Walters, Gresham, McConnell and Bautista took first (4:47.90).

The 400 free relay team of Hagel, Gee, Goblirsch and Jonny Rodriguez took second (5:31.04).
