Ceres swept in baseball

Ceres High's varsity baseball team faced the daunting task of playing defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV and Valley Oak League champion Oakdale last week.

The Bulldogs were swept by the Mustangs in the conference-opening, two-game series.

In the series finale at Oakdale High School on Thursday, the Bulldogs mustered just two hits off Nick Vandertuig in a 3-0 loss to the Mustangs.

Ceres High junior shortstop Martino Bertolotti doubled.

Bulldog freshman pitcher Tyler Cummings yielded five hits over six innings.

Ceres High collected just two hits in Wednesday's 9-0 loss to the Mustangs at Art McRae Field.

Oakdale starter Justin Jones allowed one hit with 11 strikeouts and five walks in five innings.

The Mustangs improved to 8-2 on the year, including 2-0 in conference play. The Bulldogs dropped to 2-7 overall, 0-2 in league.
