The Ceres Youth Baseball 10-and-under American All-Stars placed third at the Sixth Annual Waterford Tournament, held at Beard Park, July 5-11. Ceres (10-6) won four of six games at the double-elimination tournament.
"I think we should have done better," said Ceres coach Jim Pernetti.
"We put ourselves in the loser's bracket and didn't battle back. We ran out of gas."
Oakdale won tournament title with a 6-0 record. Host Waterford placed second at 5-1.
Ceres 7, Empire 6
Ceres edged Empire Sunday morning.
The All-Stars scored one run in the bottom of the second inning, four in the third and two in the fourth.
Moniz, Keaton Machado, Jimbo Pernetti, Domonic Oliver, Nathan Loya and Anthony Loya each scored a run for Ceres.
Ceres 15, Riverbank 4
The All-Stars overcame a three-run deficit and routed Riverbank Saturday night.
Ceres scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, four in the second and six in the third.
Riverbank scored three runs in the top of the first.
"The game was stopped after four innings because of the 10-run rule," Pernetti said.
The All-Stars collected 11 hits in the game.
Brandon Arevalos hit a homer.
Austin Hampton had two doubles.
Jimbo had a double and a single.
Nathan Loya had a double.
Scott Myatt had two singles.
Moniz, Machado and A.J. Fontana singled.
Ceres wins by forfeit
Ceres defeated Bel Passi White via forfeit Saturday afternoon.
"We took the forfeit because they didn't have enough players," Pernetti said.
Ceres 5, Hughson 1
Ceres beat Hughson Friday night.
The All-Stars scored one run in the first inning, two in the third and two in the fifth.
Ceres will play in a 17-team tournament at Bel Passi in Modesto this week. Ceres will face Modesto Christian tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
