Ceres High School's varsity girls basketball team will stage its home tournament this week.

The Ceres Lions Club round-robin event will be held at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium, Dec. 13-15.

The Bulldogs placed third with a 1-2 record in 2011-12.

Manteca won the team title.

Johansen and Atwater finished second and fourth, respectively.

"You always want to win your own tournament," Ceres High head coach Vanessa Morris said. "It would give us more confidence."

The four-team tourney will feature Ceres High, Manteca, Atwater and Stockton.

Ceres High will play Stockton on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Manteca will play Atwater at 7:30 p.m.

Ceres High will face Atwater on Friday at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs defeated the Falcons 45-34 for third place last year.

Manteca will face Stockton earlier in the day at 6 p.m.

Ceres High will challenge Manteca on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The Bulldogs lost 41-33 to the Buffaloes a season ago.

Atwater will battle Stockton at 1 p.m.

Ceres High will be led by senior Bryce Ford, freshman Nicole Bates and sophomore Ryleigh Honberger.

Ford was named to the Ceres Lions Club all-tournament team her junior year.

Bates and Honberger were recognized for their outstanding play in Hughson earlier this season.

The Bulldogs placed first at their home tournament in 2005, second in 2009, 2007 and 2006, third in 2011 and 2010, and last in 2008.

"This is the time of the year you want to get better," Morris said. "We'll play hard."
