CHS golfers place 2nd in WAC

Ceres High School's varsity girls golf team secured a second-place finish in the Western Athletic Conference regular-season standings this past week.

The Bulldogs improved to 9-2 after posting back-to-back wins.

Ceres High edged third-place Livingston, 223-230, on Thursday at Rancho Del Rey.

Arleen Xayasone fired a 9-over-par 45 against the Wolves (8-4).

Caitlin Pfaff, Erica Hogner and Kinsey Ward shot 55, 60 and 63, respectively.

The Bulldogs beat Patterson by 13 strokes, 219-232, on Oct. 11 at Diablo Grande Ranch Course.

Xayasone led Ceres High with a 10-over-par 46.

Pfaff, Jessica Ellsworth and Ward rounded out the Bulldogs' scorecard with 50, 61 and 62, respectively.

Central Valley High School's varsity girls golf team improved to 5-6 in the WAC after winning two of three matches this past week.

The Hawks posted a team score of 176 during their forfeit win over Los Banos on Wednesday.

Martina Bernal led Central Valley with a 41.

Lizette Ayala, Jocelyn Camarillo and Marlen Diaz shot 44, 45 and 46, respectively.

Central Valley carded a 173 against Pacheco, which had to forfeit on Monday, Oct. 10 because it didn't have enough players.

Bernal fired a team-best 40. Ayala, Wynter Bratenas and Camarillo finished with rounds of 42, 44 and 47.

Central Valley lost 147-171 to first-place Central Catholic on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Bernal paced the Hawks with a 37.

Ayala and Bratenas shot identical rounds of 43.

Camarillo (48) also contributed.

Ceres High and Central Valley will compete at the WAC championships this Wednesday. The tournament will be held at Diablo Grande.
