Ceres Unified School District graduates Marissa Renteria, Arianna Diaz and Isabella Gudino suited up for the Modesto Junior College women’s soccer program during the 2024-25 school year.
Renteria (Ceres High School), Diaz (CHS) and Gudino (Central Valley) all contributed as the Pirates posted a 16-7-1 overall record, finished in sixth place in the Big-8 Conference standings with a 5-5-1 mark and qualified for the 3C2A Playoffs in the fall of 2024.
“I was grateful to play with somebody I knew (in Diaz),” Renteria said. “It helped me settle in a bit. This was my first year meeting her (Gudino). I knew who she was.”
Renteria, a freshman forward, totaled eight goals and nine assists.
She logged playing time in 22 games.
She started five times.
“Marissa’s an all-round, versatile player,” Modesto JC head coach Steve Aristotelous said. “She’s composed around the goal when she shoots. She knows where the ball is going. She’s a natural finisher. She’s smart. She’s a good teammate. She’s soft-spoken. She shows you she’s good. Those are my favorite kind of players.”
“I think I did pretty good for my freshman year,” Renteria added. “I know there’s a lot I can improve on. I just want to be able to contribute to the team. Whether that’s through scoring goals, assisting or defending.”
Diaz, a freshman midfielder, collected two assists in 21 games.
She started twice.
“Arianna is a very smart player,” Aristotelous said. “She sees the game really well. I wanted her to get as much experience as she could. We expect big things out of her next year. She’ll fill a bigger role.”
Gudino, a freshman forward, had one goal in 22 games.
She started eight times.
“She was a late addition to the team,” Aristotelous said. “I knew she was good. I wanted to carve out a spot for her. My biggest challenge was trying to keep all of my forwards happy. Her production will definitely go up next season.”
Renteria and Diaz helped lead Ceres High’s girls soccer team to a 12-10-1 overall record, third-place finish in the Western Athletic Conference standings and Sac-Joaquin Section Division-III playoff berth in 2023-24.
Renteria totaled a team-high 17 goals in conference play during her lone season with the Bulldogs.
A four-year varsity player, Diaz collected six goals and one assist in league play as a senior.
She was named Ceres High’s WAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Diaz led the Bulldogs in scoring as a junior and sophomore.
She was selected to the WAC First Team senior, junior and sophomore years.
Diaz’s teams advanced to the postseason three times.
Gudino filled a major role while leading Central Valley to an 11-11-2 overall record, third-place finish in the Central California Conference and Division-I playoff appearance senior year.
She collected 10 goals and four assists.
