The Ceres Dolphins recreational swim team completed its 53rd season of competition this past weekend.

Ceres racked up 1,117.5 points while finishing in third place at the 2016 MVSL Championships on Saturday in Turlock.

"It would have been quite a shock if we didn't take third," coach Jon Olanolan said. "Tracy got really close to us. When freestyle started, we pulled away from them."

The host Turlock Seadogs (1,887.5) edged out the Ripon Sea Lions (1,881) for the team title.

The Tracy Tritons (1,030) and Manteca Dolphins (430) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

"I don't want to discredit Turlock or Ripon," Olanolan said. "But we can't compete with them on sheer numbers. They have more kids."

Ceres' Victoria Silveria (11-12 girls) and Iain McCarthy (9-10 boys) both won overall titles for their age groups at the MVSL finals. Silveria and McCarthy were awarded High-Point trophies.
