Approximately 120 youth participated in the Ceres Youth Cowboys Football & Cheerleading organization's first-annual football skills camp last summer.

Reg Evans, Cowboys president and JV coach, wants to ensure a larger turnout this year. He sent an email to all the teams in the Delta Youth Football League on April 12.

"I've already got a lot of calls," Evans said.

The day-long camp will be held at a site to be determined on June 19 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration is open to boys and girls ages 7-14.

"It's not just limited to the Ceres Cowboys," Evans said. "Anybody can come out and participate.

"We're going to take up to 200 kids."

Coaches from the varsity, junior-varsity and novice levels, including Evans, Mo Walker, Tom Vasquez, Tony Garcia, Eric Payne, Shane Trousdale, Junior Johnson, Mike Broderick and Glen Carrillo, will provide instruction in offense and defense at eight different stations.

Offensive instruction will focus on quarterback, running back, receiver and offensive line.

Defensive instruction will focus on defensive line, linebacker and defensive back.

Harry Johnson will also provide assistance. Johnson played defensive end in the NFL for five years and in the USFL with Steve Young and the L.A. Express for two years.

To register, call 312-8444. Signups will also be held at the Ceres Street Faire. Cost is $25 per child. Participants will receive a lunch and T-shirt.
