Ceres High School's varsity swim program made its debut in the Western Athletic Athletic season last week.

The Bulldogs were members of the Valley Oak League from 2007-10.

"I'm pleased with how we did," head coach Rebecca Sanders said. "We were competitive."

Ceres High's boys suffered a 95-74 loss while playing host to Los Banos on Friday.

The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers in several events, including the 100 back and 200 free.

Kody Flifet placed first in the 200 free.

Manuel Hernandez placed third in the 200 free.

Mario Gonzalez placed fifth in the 200 free.

Dylan Hines placed first in the 100 back and second in the 500 free.

Nick Serratos placed second in the 100 back and 200 IM.

Stefan Perry placed fourth in the 100 back and fifth in the 100 free.

Jacob Stone placed second in the 100 fly.

Victor Cruz placed second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free.

Joseph Ochoa placed third in the 100 fly and 500 free.

Austin Massie placed third in the 100 breast and fourth in the 200 IM.

Cody Azevedo placed fourth in the 50 free.

Damien Underwood placed fourth in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200 IM.

Gianni Blandino placed fifth in the 50 free and 500 free.

Ceres High's girls lost 116-54 to the Tigers. Los Banos placed first overall at the NorCal Relays last Saturday at Johansen High School.

Megan Braverman, Tori Gunzenhauser, Haley Fisicaro and Payton Mahu, Ceres High's 200 medley relay team, posted a section-qualifying time while placing second against the Tigers.

"They've been working very hard in practice," Sanders said.

Fisicaro finished first in the 100 free and second in the 50 free.

Mahu finished second in the 100 fly and third in the 100 back.

Gunzenhauser finished second in the 100 breast and third in the 200 free.

Braverman finished third in the 100 breast and fourth in the 200 IM.

Jeanette Dunlap finished third in the 500 free and fifth in the 100 back.

Maureen Nelson finished fourth in the 100 fly and fifth in the 200 IM.

Raquel Flud finished fourth in the 200 free and sixth in the 100 free.

Haley Hoback finished fifth in the 500 free and 100 breast.

Taylor Andrade placed fifth in the 100 fly.

Monica Zambrano finished fifth in the 100 free.

Kim Cuevas finished fifth in the 200 free and sixth in the 50 free.

Ashley Kumar finished fifth in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 back.

Emily Chapman finished sixth in the 200 IM.

Rebecca Wright finished sixth in the 500 free.

"For our first meet, we did a good job," Sanders said while talking about Ceres High's overall performance. "I'm really proud of them."

Shorhanded CV falls

The members of Central Valley High School's varsity swim program traveled to Patterson on Friday for the Hawks' first WAC dual meet of the 2011 season.

The host Tigers earned a sweep.

"I'm pleased with our performance," Central Valley head coach Sarah Willems said. "We had time trials two weeks ago. A lot of the kids improved on their times."

Central Valley's girls lost 96-50 to Patterson.

Taylor Rogers, Cierra Alvear, Savanna Alvear and Michaela Silber contributed to the Hawks' point total.

Rogers won the 50 free and 100 free.

Cierra Alvear won the 200 IM.

Savanna Alvear placed first in the 100 back and second in the 50 free.

Silber placed third in the 200 free and fifth in the 100 free.

Central Valley's boys lost 113-32 to Patterson.

Benji Magana placed second in the 50 free.

Sam Gaede placed third in the 200 free.

Austin McAleavey placed third in the 100 free.

Braden Rambo placed fourth in the 200 free.

Jesse Magana placed fourth in the 50 free.

Thomas Rogers placed fourth in the 100 free and fifth in the 50 free.

The Tigers won thanks in large part to their depth.

"They had more kids swimming in each event," Willems said. "That's how they got us."
