Dolphins place 4th at Sea Dogs Invitational

The Ceres Dolphins placed fourth in a field of eight with a team score of 554 at the Sea Dogs Invitational on June 26 at Pitman High School.

The recreational swim club bested the Manteca Dolphins (238), Oakdale Gators (164), Modesto-Stanislaus Sharks (108) and Turlock Marlins (55).

The Ripon Sea Lions (1,258) won the team title. The Tracy Tritons (966) and Sea Dogs (898) finished second and third, respectively.

"Overall, we're very happy," head coach Tracy Bull said. "We were down in the dumps not so long ago. To rebound like we have is incredible."

Cassandara Guevara (15-16 girls), Jadyn Shinn (7-8 girls), Jordan Shin (6&under boys) and Emma Silveira (6&under girls) brought home high-point trophies from the competition.

Shinn shattered three meet records: 50 free, 25 free and 25 back.

Jordan completed the 25 free in 16.81 seconds.

"I honestly think that record won't be broken in my lifetime," Bull said. "It's mind-boggling."

Guevara (100 free) and Cierra Alvear (50 breast) also set meet records.

INDIVIDUALS

17-18 boys

Tyler Padilla placed first in the 100 IM.

Conner Almeida placed second in the 50 free, and third in the 100 free and 100 IM.

17-18 girls

Rebecca Wright placed sixth in the 100 free and 50 free.

15-16 boys

Cody Fliflet placed fourth in the 100 free and sixth in the 50 free.

Joseph Ochoa placed eighth in the 100 free and 50 free.

15-16 girls

Cassandra Guevara placed first in the 100 IM, 100 free and 50 free.

Cierra Alvear placed first in the 50 fly and 50 breast, and second in the 100 IM.

Montana Bull placed first in the 50 back, second in the 100 free and third in the 50 fly.

Ceres took third at the Oakdale and Tracy meets earlier this season.

The Dolphins competed shorthanded at the Sea Dogs Invitational. More than a dozen swimmers were sidelined with ear infections sustained during practice on June 28.

"A lot of the kids were sick," Bull said.

Ceres, Ripon and Manteca will battle at Sierra High School on July 10.
