Ceres High made history at the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section Division II Cross-Country Championships on the Frogtown course in Angels Camp on Friday.

Approximately 10 Bulldogs, including Karrah Brown, Andrew Chipponeri, Henry Shamoeil, Nicole Laranjo, Caitlin Cerny, Heather Jones, Vicki Morales, Katie Lutes, Melanie Casey and Nicole Caselli, qualified for the section meet, which will be held this Saturday at Willy Hills in Folsom.

"That's the most I've ever had advance," said Ceres coach Glenn Driskell. "The second most was in 1996. I had eight kids go."

At the varsity level, the top eight teams and top 10 individuals not on those teams advanced. At the sophomore and frosh-soph levels, the top five teams and top 10 individuals moved on.

"Everybody ran their best races of the year," Driskell said. "That's a real positive."

Brown and the varsity girls team finished 12th overall in a field of 30 with 309 points. Vacaville won the team title. Granite Bay and Oak Ridge finished second and third, respectively.

Brown, a junior, placed 26th. She completed the 2.9-mile hilly course in 20 minutes, 54 seconds.

Excluding runners from the top-eight teams, Brown had the eighth-best time.
