Alyssa Long and her Central Valley High School varsity girls basketball teammate never lost confidence despite being thoroughly outplayed by Atwater in the opening half of last week's non-league contest.

The Hawks overcame an 11-point deficit on their way to a 50-43 win over the Falcons on Monday, Dec. 13 in Ceres.

"Losing by that much motivated us to come back," Central Valley senior standout Alyssa Long said. "I'm not surprised at all. We have the talent."

Three Hawk players scored in double figures, including Long (11), Myra Naranjo (12) and Eva Noorzai (10).

Diana Carmona and Vivien Fermil tallied eight and four points, respectively.

Lizette Covarrubias and Cynthia Andrade both collected two points.

Melinda Camarillo had one point.

Central Valley trailed 27-16 at halftime.

The Hawks outscored the Falcons 34-16 after intermission.

"Overall, we had less turnovers," Long said. "We were making our free throws. We executed our plays. I definitely see us doing well and going far this year."

Central Valley (6-4) will face Orestimba today in Ceres. The non-conference game will get underway at 7:15 p.m.
