Ceres High’s experience-laden varsity girls tennis team kept its Western Athletic Conference title hopes alive this past week.

The Bulldogs remained in second place in the WAC standings after shutting out Lathrop and Grace Davis on the road.

“They’re rebuilding,” coach Brandon Moring said. “That’s where we’re going to be next year. Every team goes through that.”

Ceres High improved to 7-1 in league play following Wednesday’s 9-0 triumph over Lathrop.

The Bulldogs topped the Spartans by the same score on Aug. 29.

Ceres High won all six singles and three doubles matches during the second meeting.

Shania Evans bested Darlene Hoang 6-3, 6-3 in No. 1 singles play.

Vivian Moreno bested Bernie Vilches 6-0, 6-4 in No. 2 singles play.

Tania Garfias bested Tammy Pham 6-1, 6-2 in No. 3 singles play.

Gurmen Bahia bested Harman Garcha 6-3, 6-2 in No. 4 singles play.

Morgan Bejaran bested Kimberly Bareng 6-1, 6-3 in No. 5 singles play.

Jillian Jimenez bested Elizah Timbreza 6-1, 6-3 in No. 6 singles play.

Christel Ontiveros and Jasmine Bahia bested Jocelyn Lat and Amanda Fernandez 6-0, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles play.

Monica Esparza and Elena Ochoa bested Harleen Bal and Shania Leyva 6-3, 7-5 in No. 2 doubles play.

Gurmannet Bahia and Daniela Nunez won by forfeit at No. 3 doubles.

Ceres High wrapped up the first half of the WAC season with an 8-0 win at Grace Davis on Sept. 24 in Modesto.

The Bulldogs swept all six singles and three doubles matches.

Evans bested Adryanna Ege 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles play.

Moreno bested Maya Neto 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 singles play.

Camille Vega bested Daylin Macias 6-0, 6-2 in No. 3 singles play.

Garfias bested Sahar Sabaghian 6-0, 6-0 in No. 4 singles play.

Gurmen Bahia bested Manveer Bahia 6-3, 6-1 in No. 5 singles play.

Bejaran bested Lizbeth Juarez 6-0, 6-2 in No. 6 singles play.

Jimenez and Ontiveros bested Kishi Kieng and Yarel Esparza 6-2, 6-4 in No. 1 doubles play.

Esparza and Jasmine Bahia bested Leilani Rodriguez and Sariyah Heidelberg 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles play.

Ochoa and Gurmannet Bahia bested Teresa Godinez and Emma Brasiel 6-1, 6-1 in No. 3 doubles play.

Ceres High will compete at Johansen today.

The WAC match will get underway at 3:30 p.m.

“I really enjoy coaching this group of girls,” Moring said. “They work hard and never miss practice. I want them to know I’m proud of them. But we’re not done yet. Every day is a chance to get better.”
