BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Ceres High’s boys volleyball team earned bragging rights against crosstown-rival Central Valley last week.

The Bulldogs defended their home court with a 3-0 victory against the Hawks in WAC play on March 18.

“To me, it’s another match,” Ceres High head coach/former Central Valley leader Kelly Heese said. “It’s more important to the kids. They show up and represent when it comes time to play them.”

“It seemed like Ceres High had more energy and focus,” Central Valley head coach Julio Madrigal said. “We were lacking that. Being on their home court helped.”

Daniel Benavidez, Fernando Galvan, Jael Mendoza and Geremiah Sio led the Bulldogs (1-4, 1-2).

Garrett Akiona, Dominic Gudino and Zachary Silva led the Hawks (3-11, 1-2).

“I was very impressed with how well they worked together,” Heese said.

“Their players were communicating,” Madrigal added. “That’s what we were missing. That’s an area we need to improve on.”
