Bulldogs capture individual titles at WAC finals

Ceres High's varsity boys and girls swim teams both finished in second place at the Western Athletic Conference Championships on April 23 in Los Banos.

Julia Pata, Ciana Sather, Cassidy Hines, Kiera Brownlee, Lindsey Reedy, Annie Connors, Haley Hoback, Kaitlyn Foster, Jade Dominguez, Jacklyn Lamb and Baylee Carlin led the Bulldogs' girls squad, which totaled 119 points.

Los Banos (211) captured the team title.

Pacheco (74), Livingston (66), Patterson (42) and Central Valley (6) took third, fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

Pata, a freshman, swept the 50 free (26.47) and 100 free (57.73). Julia didn't lose an individual race during the WAC season.

"Some athletes want to be good and don't put in the quality work," Ceres High coach Sue Garcia said. "Julia doesn't pull back. She demands a lot of herself."

Sather placed second in the 100 fly (1:09.22) and third in the 50 free (28.29).

Hines placed third in the 100 back (1:15.28).

Brownlee placed third in the 100 breast (1:25.95) and fifth in the 200 IM (2:55.07).

Reedy placed fifth in the 200 free (2:33.23) and seventh in the 100 free (1:09.63).

Connors placed sixth in the 200 free (2:39.62) and ninth in the 50 free (30.55).

Hoback placed sixth in the 500 free (7:41.82) and 10th in the 200 free (2:57.68).

Foster placed sixth in the 100 fly (1:26.10) and 10th in the 100 back (1:30.20).

Dominguez placed seventh in the 500 free (7:44.55) and ninth in the 100 back (1:29.15).

Lamb placed eighth in the 100 fly (1:29.70) and ninth in the 200 IM (3:12.82).

Ceres High's ‘A' 200 medley relay team of Hines, Brownlee, Sather and Pata placed second (2:08.20).

Ceres High's ‘B' 200 medley relay team of Dominguez, Reedy, Lamb and Baylee Carlin placed sixth (2:33.66).

Ceres High's ‘A' 200 free relay team of Connors, Foster, Lamb and Hines placed third (2:05.23).

Ceres High's ‘A' 400 free relay team of Sather, Reedy, Sather and Pata placed second (4:20.16).

Ceres High's ‘B' 400 free relay team of Foster, Dominguez, Hoback and Connors placed sixth (5:06.57).

Zachary Jones, Erik Weststeyn, Bobby Baranski, Stefan Perry, Nathan Stone, Connor Mills, Timothy Campbell, Logan Kier, Tino Amaya, Michael Barnes and Noah Rantz led Ceres High's boys squad (125 points).

Los Banos (180) won the team title, followed by Ceres High, Patterson (82), Pacheco (49), Livingston (49), Central Catholic (19) and Central Valley (14).

Jones swept the 50 free (23.05) and 100 free (49.64).

Zachary anchored two winning relay teams. The Bulldogs trailed before Jones entered the water for both races.

"He's a great natural talent," Garcia said. "He's a hunter out there going after his game. He thrives on that. He was so in his element."

Weststeyn placed first in the 100 fly (1:01.46) and second in the 500 free (5:55.00).

Erik posted a 7-0 record in the 100 fly during WAC competition.
"I didn't bring it up until after he finished," Garcia said. "I didn't want to put any extra pressure on him."

Baranski placed third in the 50 free (25.13) and fourth in the 100 free (56.81).

Perry placed fourth in the 500 free (6:12.64) and 100 breast (1:14.70).

Stone placed fourth in the 200 IM (2:43.21) and sixth in the 100 back (1:19.32).

Mills placed fifth in the 200 free (2:19.04) and 500 free (6:20.01).

Campbell placed eighth in the 100 breast (1:23.78).

Kier placed eighth in the 200 IM (2:59.62) and 12th in the 100 breast (1:30.81).

Ceres High's ‘A' 400 free relay team of Baranski, Weststeyn, Perry and Jones placed first (3:45.56).

Ceres High's ‘B' 400 free relay team of Campbell, Mills, Stone and Tino Amaya placed third (4:21.91).

Ceres High's ‘A' 200 free relay team of Baranski, Weststeyn, Perry and Jones placed first (1:40.21).

Ceres High's ‘B' 200 free relay team of Amaya, Mills, Kier and Stone placed eighth (1:56.69).

Ceres High's ‘A' 200 medley relay team of Michael Barnes, Kier, Campbell and Noah Rantz placed eighth (2:23.09).

Vanessa Hernandez, Leah Faamafi, Stephany Navarro, Daisy Robles, Lisa Serna, Jessica Muci, Nancy Laiton, Brenda Romo, Simaran Dosanjh, Ivonne Orozco, Leticia Sandoval, Roxana Torres, Alicea Valldejuli and Naomi Torres suited up for Central Valley's girls team.

Hernandez placed 10th in the 100 free (1:14.87) and 20th in the 50 free (33.80).

Faamafi placed 12th in the 50 free (31.06).

Navarro placed 12th in the 200 IM (3:22.18) and 14th in the 100 breast (1:43.23).

Robles placed 16th in the 100 breast (1:46.78) and 35th in the 50 free (35.73).

Serna placed 17th in the 100 back (1:34.05) and 30th in the 50 free (35.29).

Muci placed 22nd in the 100 free (1:21.14).

Laiton placed 22nd in the 200 free (3:24.76) and 50th in the 50 free (37.64).

Romo placed 29th in the 50 free (35.28).

Dosanjh placed 29th in the 100 free (1:25.78) and 39th in the 50 free (36.30).

Orozco placed 31st in the 100 free (1:26.16).

Sandoval placed 33rd in the 100 free (1:27.45) and 51st in the 50 free (37.66).

Roxana Torres placed 35th in the 100 free (1:28.82).

Valldejuli placed 46th in the 50 free (37.24).

Naomi Torres placed 68th in the 50 free (40.58).

Central Valley's ‘A' 200 free relay team placed seventh (2:13.25).

Edgar Cervantes, David Jimenez, Kevin Martinez, Jose Robles, Isiah Zuniga, Cesar Armas, Sergio Lopez, Jaime Diaz, Oscar Esparza, Francisco Orellana, Josue Lopez and Michael Nunez represented Central Valley's boys team.

Cervantes placed fifth in the 100 back (1:15.66) and 11th in the 50 free (28.16).

Jimenez placed ninth in the 200 IM (3:54.92).

Martinez placed ninth in the 50 free (27.79) and 11th in the 100 free (6:55.49).

Robles placed 12th in the 50 free (28.32) and 14th in the 100 breast (1:35.43).

Zuniga placed 12th in the 100 back (1:37.71) and 22nd in the 50 free (32.43).

Armas placed 15th in the 200 free (2:54.91) and 100 breast (1:37.11).

Lopez placed 19th in the 100 free (1:15.50).

Diaz placed 20th in the 100 free (1:16.22) and 50 free (30.84).

Esparza placed 22nd in the 100 free (1:18.88) and 25th in the 50 free (33.45).

Orellana placed 24th in the 100 free (1:24.12) and 34th in the 50 free (35.87).
