Ceres High’s and Central Valley’s baseball programs remained unbeaten in Western Athletic Conference play after sweeping Lathrop and Beyer, respectively, this past week.

“I’m excited,” Bulldogs’ head coach Bret Durossette said. “Our kids are doing a great job. They’re playing as hard as they can. They’re having fun.”

“I’m very satisfied,” Hawks’ leader Brad Bussard added.

Ceres High improved to 7-4 overall and 4-0 in the WAC standings with a 26-9 victory over host Lathrop in six innings on Thursday.

The Bulldogs pounded 19 hits on their way to battling back from a six-run deficit.

Ceres High scored six runs in the top of the third inning, three in the fourth, eight in the fifth and ninth in the sixth.

“I knew our kids would rally and do what they had to do to win the game,” Durossette said. “They swung the bats well. They put the ball in play.”

He gave five earned runs and eight hits with four strikeouts and five walks in 52/3 innings against the Spartans (4-10, 1-3).

Urena also batted 3-for-6 from the plate with one triple, two doubles, three RBIs and three runs.

Central Valley cruised to a 10-1 win over Beyer on March 17 in Modesto.

“Honestly, we didn’t play our best game,” Bussard said. “We took advantage of the mistakes Beyer made.”
