The Hawks improved to 18-8 on the season after winning two of three games at Oakdale’s Mark Dickens Invitational.

The Bulldogs improved to 18-7 overall following their 3-1 showing at the Dick Windemuth Classic hosted at Modesto High.

“It was a good learning tournament for us to prepare us for playoffs,” said Central Valley head coach Brad Bussard. “We’ve proven we’re competitive with the best teams in our area.”

Central Valley closed out the tournament with a 10-0 mercy-rule win against Golden Valley on Thursday.

The Hawks accumulated 10 hits while batting .385 from the plate as a team on offense.

“His arm was super live,” Bussard said. “He commanded the zone.”

Central Valley cut a seven-run deficit to five before losing 7-5 to host Oakdale on Wednesday.

The Hawks made the contest interesting by scoring five times in the top of the seventh inning.

“I definitely loved to see the fight,” Bussard said. “Errors hurt us. Very uncharacteristic of our program.”
