Central Valley’s and Ceres High’s playoff-qualifying baseball teams wrapped up the regular season last week.
The Hawks improved to 20-8 overall and finished first in the Western Athletic Conference with a perfect 14-0 mark after sweeping the Grace Davis Spartans.
The Bulldogs improved to 19-8 on the year and tied for second in the WAC standings with a 10-4 record after winning one of two games versus the Livingston Wolves.
Central Valley made history in 2025 by setting a program record for wins in a single season and claiming its first league title.
Ceres High enjoyed its most successful season to date since 2016-17.
“This is the most talented team we’ve had,” Hawks’ head coach Brad Bussard said.
“Their hard work paid off,” Bulldogs’ leader Bret Durossette said.
Central Valley topped Grace Davis 7-1 during Game 2 of their WAC series on Thursday in Modesto.
“The guys did what they were supposed to do,” Bussard said.
Hawk Nicholas Dominguez improved his pitching record to 7-0.
He had nine strikeouts and no walks while tossing a complete game.
Dominguez gave up one run and two hits in seven innings.
“Nick’s been very consistent this season,” Bussard stated. “He’s been our 1b (pitcher) the last two years.”
Dominguez accounted for one of Central Valley’s 11 hits on offense.
He singled and knocked in one run.
Chris Garcia batted 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run.
Andre Flores batted 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run.
Fernando Dominguez and Edgar Peralta both batted 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run.
Central Valley rolled to a 17-4 win over Grace Davis in five innings during Game 1 of the WAC series on April 29.
The Hawks led 14-0 heading into the fourth inning.
“We got up early,” Bussard said. “Everybody got to play.”
Central Valley had 10 different players collect at least one hit against Grace Davis.
“Our bats were hot,” Bussard said.
Edgar Peralta batted 3-for-4 with one triple, four RBIs and one run.
Fernando Dominguez batted 1-for-2 with one double, two RBIs and two runs.
Flores batted 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Garcia improved his pitching record to 7-2.
He totaled eight strikeouts and no walks in three innings.
Garcia allowed no runs and one hit.
Ceres High edged Livingston 3-2 during Game 2 of their WAC series on Thursday at Art McRae Field.
Four Bulldog seniors were recognized before their final home game, including Vincent Castrejon, Daniel Davis, Aiden Maines and Carson Ulrich.
“They were all about the team,” said Durossette.
Ceres High totaled five hits versus Livingston.
Ceres High lost 4-1 at Livingston during Game 1 of the WAC series on April 29.
The Bulldogs totaled four hits and committed one error.
“They beat us because we did things we shouldn’t have done,” Durossette said.
