Ceres High and Central Valley grapplers had a full slate of competition this past week.
GIRLS WRESTLING
Ceres High turned in a dominant showing at the Lady Guardians Tournament on Saturday in Fresno.
The Bulldogs claimed the team title and seven individual medals.
Ceres High totaled 150.5 points en route to a first-place finish.
Selma (134.5) and Golden West (127) took second and third, respectively.
“Overall, the team showed grit, focus and great effort, which led to our team championship,” head coach Curtis Hulstine said. “I’m proud of the way these girls competed and represented our program.”
Dayanna Alvarez took first place with a 3-0 record in the 125-pound weight bracket.
She was also named the tournament’s lower-weight MVP.
Elizabeth Boyd took first with a 2-0 record at 235 pounds.
Abigail Schultz, Mezmeriah Zuniga and Alana Festa all took second.
Schultz compiled a 3-1 record at 130 pounds.
Zuniga compiled a 2-1 record at 135 pounds.
Festa compiled a 3-1 record at 190 pounds.
Evelynn Tubera took fourth with a 4-2 record at 110 pounds.
Avril Gaona took fifth with a 2-2 record at 100 pounds.
Abrianna Bautista compiled a 3-2 record at 105 pounds.
Aneyscia Pedraza compiled a 1-2 record at 120 pounds.
Central Valley had nine grapplers finish in the top three in their respective weight brackets at the Livingston Tournament on Saturday.
Alicia Espinoza claimed the 198-206-pound title with a 2-0 record.
Divina Velasquez (102-104s) placed second with a 2-1 record.
Evalyn Zambrano (136-140s) placed second with a 2-1 record.
Giana Breshears (127-134s) placed second with a 2-1 record.
Leslie Hernandez (158-169s) placed second with a 2-1 record.
Addisyn Prudhel (139-144s) placed third with a 2-1 record.
Mekenzie Buenrostro (115-116s) placed third with a 2-1 record.
McKenzie Smith (210-230s) placed third with a 1-2 record.

Central Valley opened the Western Athletic Conference dual season with a pair of home wins.
The Hawks bested the Beyer Patriots 57-24 on Thursday and Pacheco Panthers 60-24 on Dec. 9.
Central Valley won 10 of 14 matches versus Beyer.

Ceres High coasted to a 78-6 victory at WAC-rival Johansen on Dec. 9.
“We didn’t know how it was going to go,” Hulstine said. “But I had faith in my girls and they showed up. They handled business.”
Ceres High will host the Super Girl Showdown this Friday.
BOYS WRESTLING
Central Valley and Ceres High finished 21st and 26th, respectively, at Oakdale’s James Riddle Classic on Saturday.
The Hawks and Bulldogs posted team scores of 36.5 and 29 points, respectively.
Buchanan (227.5), Oakdale (218) and Del Oro (188.5) took first, second and third, respectively.
“It’s always a tough tournament,” Ceres High head coach Adam Borges said. “We were hoping to win a few matches.”
Parker Borges led the Bulldogs.
Seeded eighth, Borges upset the No. 1 and 4 seeds on his way to a second-place finish in the 150-pound weight bracket.
Borges posted a 4-1 record.
“I’m proud of him,” coach Borges said. “Parker has been working super hard. There’s still a lot more work to do.”
Ceres High teammate Hunter Hammons compiled a 1-2 record at 285 pounds.
Rotceh Mendez led the Hawks.
He placed sixth in the 132-pound weight bracket.
Mendez compiled a 4-2 record.
Hawk teammates Urijah Krigbaum, Emilio Castillo, Sean Vernon, Sunny Breshears and Carlos Gonzalez all won at least one match in Oakdale.
Krigbaum compiled a 3-2 record at 144 pounds.
Castillo compiled a 3-2 record at 120 pounds.
Vernon compiled a 1-2 record at 175 pounds.
Breshears compiled a 1-2 record at 165 pounds.
Gonzalez compiled a 1-2 record at 138 pounds.
Central Valley swept Beyer and Pacheco during the opening week of the WAC dual season.
Central Valley bested Beyer 55-12 on Thursday in Ceres.
“Beyer is a very good team,” head coach Rob Beckhart said. “They’re dangerous. But a lot of their kids are younger. We have a lot of returning veterans. We were able to use our experience.”
The Hawks won 11 of 14 matches.

Jayden Mattox prevailed by pin (1:57) against Adrian Chhay at 126 pounds.

“Our kids executed the game plan,” said Coach Beckhart.
Central Valley topped Pacheco 67-12 on Dec. 9 in Ceres.
The Hawks won 12 of 14 matches.
“It was a high-level performance,” noted Rob Beckhart. “The kids were focused and disciplined.”
Ceres High dropped its WAC dual opener at Johansen on Dec. 9.
“We knew it was going to be a tough challenge. The kids did well.”
