Ceres High School's varsity girls tennis team strengthened its grip on third place in the Western Athletic Conference this past week.

The Bulldogs improved to 5-2 in the league standings after collecting a pair of wins.

The top three teams in the WAC qualify for postseason in November.

"I'm enjoying the ride," head coach Jack Jacques said. "We're well-positioned for the playoffs at this point. It's hard not to be happy. The girls always give me their all. They never quit."

Ceres High beat visiting Livingston 6-3 on Thursday.

The Bulldogs won four of six singles and two of three doubles matches versus the Wolves.

Angelica Slater defeated Karina Ramos 6-3, 6-1 in No. 1 singles play.

Gabriella Blandino defeated Elisa Armenta 6-4, 6-2 in No. 2 singles play.

Janet Jimenez defeated Jasdeep Bassi 6-2, 6-2 in No. 3 singles play.

Juliana Rosas defeated Claudia Esquivel 6-3, 6-3 in No. 6 singles play.

Jolyce Vega and Stephanie Garcia defeated Avneet Uppal and Amalia Barragan 7-6, 6-4 in No. 2 doubles play.

Chelsea Heras and Jalani Blankenship defeated Naomi Toledo and Angelica Martinez 6-1, 7-5 in No. 3 doubles play.

Bianca DeAnda lost 6-3, 6-4 to Jaranpreet Kaur in No. 4 singles play.

Justine Vega lost 6-1, 6-2 to Maggie Mendoza in No. 5 singles play.

Andria Esho and Dominique Koeurn lost 6-4, 6-1 to Jenny Garcia and Christine Gallardo in No. 1 doubles play.

Ceres High upended winless Pacheco 7-2 on Sept. 30 in Ceres.

The Bulldogs won five of six singles and two of three doubles matches against the Panthers.

Slater defeated Iran Islas 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 in No. 1 singles play.

Blandino defeated Perla Jimenez 6-0, 6-3 in No. 2 singles play.

Jimenez defeated Aimee Wheeler 6-4, 6-0 in No. 3 singles play.

DeAnda defeated Mariah Moreno 6-1, 6-1 in No. 4 singles play.

Rosas defeated Kayla Ayala 6-1, 6-2 in No. 6 singles play.

Esho and Koeurn defeated Elizabeth DelaCruz and Chelsea Cano 6-1, 6-4 in No. 2 doubles play.

Geneba Revuelta and Sabrina Yang defeated Frances Jacobo and Mia Arrey 7-5, 6-1 in No. 3 doubles play.

Garcia and Jolyce Vega lost 6-3, 7-5 to Lelani Cano and Maria Martinez in No. 1 doubles play.

Justine Vega lost 7-5, 6-2 to Ruth Ramirez in No. 5 singles play.

Ceres High trails undefeated Los Banos and second-place Central Valley in the WAC standings. "I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, but I don't think we're over performing," Jacques said. "They're learning and getting better every day. It would be a little surprising if we couldn't hold onto third place."
