Central Valley’s boys tennis program closed out the 2025 Western Athletic Conference regular season with a 7-2 loss to the Lathrop Spartans on April 14 in Ceres.

Three Hawk seniors were recognized before their final home match, including Anantah Sivongxay, Darien Pongbandith and Emmanuel Carranza.

Sivongxay and Pongbandith were both four-year contributors.

Carranza was new to the team.

“All three will be tough to replace,” said head coach Nimrat Chahal. “Kai (Anantah) has been our No. 1 singles player for two years and has played singles for three years. He was one of the leaders of the program. Darien has been a consistent part of our lineup the last two seasons and one of our better doubles players. Manny stepped into our doubles team this year and performed extremely well.”

Central Valley compiled a 4-6 record en route to a fourth-place finish in the WAC standings.

Lathrop (10-0) took first.

Third-place Grace Davis (6-4) secured the conference’s third-and-final playoff berth.

“We were right in the middle of the pack,” Chahal said. “I thought we could have performed a bit better. But we are a young team and young teams always have their ups and downs. We learned a lot this season and this experience will help us in the future.”

Central Valley won two of three doubles matches versus Lathrop during the WAC finale.

Blake Silva and Manny Carranza prevailed 7-5, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles play.

Osvaldo Cisneros and Rehman Ali prevailed 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in No. 3 doubles play.

Cisneros and Ali had a perfect record as playing partners.

“They’re 3-0 playing together. Osvaldo is a natural athlete. Rehman understand the game pretty well. This is his second year.”

Roman Parodi and Leo Navarro lost 6-3, 6-4 in No. 2 doubles play.

The Hawks dropped all six of their singles matches to the Spartans.

Anantah Sivongxay lost 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 singles play.

Avori Ortega lost 6-3, 6-2 in No. 2 singles play.

Silas Rodriguez lost 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles play.

Alex Aguilar lost 6-0, 6-0 in No. 4 singles play.

Jaylan Tagadaya lost 6-2, 6-1 in No. 5 singles play.

Darien Pongbandith lost 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles play.

“Lathrop is the league champions. I thought we played them tough. But credit to them. They were the better team.”

The Hawks could return as many as nine starters from this year’s team next spring.

“My hope is we are competing for a playoff spot. We should have a good returning group of seniors. We have some young JV players who are up for the challenge.”
