Central Valley High School's varsity boys basketball team earned a narrow 50-46 win while battling host Patterson on Jan. 7.

The Hawks elevated their level play during the rematch.

Central Valley dominated from start to finish in beating Patterson 65-46 on Wednesday in Ceres.

"We treat every game like it's our last," Hawks star guard Daevon Brown said. "We put it on them early. We hit our shots and executed. We kept pushing. We tired them out."

Brown had a game-high 15 points. He made all five of his foul shots.

Parker Griffin added 12 points.

Jaron Dickson contributed 11 points, including three treys.

Devon Bolivar and Manuel Garcia netted eight and five points, respectively.

Edward Calderon and Nimrat Chahal both collected two points.

The Hawks outscored the Tigers in every quarter.

Central Valley led 47-31 heading into the final period.

The Hawks (18-3, 8-0) kept their perfect record in Western Athletic Conference play intact.

"We have a very good chance at going 12-0," Brown said. "We just have to stay focused and keep pushing. We have better team chemistry this year. We're all on the same page."

Ignited by a fast start, Central Valley throttled varsity newcomer El Capitan 70-51 on Friday in Merced.

The Hawk trio of Dickson, Brown and Griffin combined to score 58 points.

Jaron made five treys en route to pouring in a game-high 27 points.

Brown and Griffin added 18 and 13 points, respectively.

Bolivar scored five points.

Garcia, Andres Calderon and Inayat Sahota all had two points.

Central Valley outscored El Capitan 17-8 in the first quarter.

The Hawks also won their 10th consecutive game.

Central Valley will play at Pacheco on Friday. The WAC contest will get underway at 7:30 p.m.

The Hawks made history last season by compiling a program-best 22-7 record and qualifying for the postseason for the first time. Central Valley upset Sierra 60-43 in the opening-round before losing 61-58 to Fairfield in the quarterfinals.

"We want to go undefeated in league," Brown said. "We all have that hunger to get back to the playoffs and go deeper. We're playing with a chip on our shoulder."
