Central Valley’s football team had reason to be excited following Friday’s 41-21 victory over host Beyer at Johansen High School.

The Hawks exacted revenge while spoiling the Patriots’ Homecoming.

Central Valley also snapped an eight-game road losing streak dating back to the 2023 season.

“Obviously, it’s great to get a win,” Hawks’ head coach Derrick Goblirsch said. “I’m very happy with our team’s overall performance.”

Central Valley improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in Western Athletic Conference play.

Beyer dropped to 2-4 and 0-3.

The Hawks and Patriots remained in second and last place, respectively, in the WAC standings.

“When teams pick us for their Homecoming, we try to use it as motivation,” Goblirsch said.

Central Valley’s offensive line was dominant against Beyer.

The Hawks piled up 453 yards, including 274 on the ground.

Central Valley was forced to punt just one time.

Emanuel Luna had a career-night versus the Patriots.

He gained 150 yards and scored one touchdown on 19 carries.

Sebastian Maldonado rushed for 85 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries.

Erick Mendoza carried the ball nine times for 36 yards and one touchdown.

Sophomore Junior Gomez completed 8 of 12 passes for 179 yards with a career-high three touchdowns and one interception.

Cristian Gudino also enjoyed his best game to date with Central Valley.

He totaled 100 yards and two touchdowns on just three receptions.

Caden Mendonca caught two passes for 65 yards and one touchdown.

Hawk Josiah Armenta was a perfect 5-for-5 on point-after kicks.

Luna collected seven tackles, one forced fumble and one pass deflection on defense.

Gudino tallied six tackles.

Jony Velasquez had two tackles and half a sack.

Adrian Santabanez had one tackle, one fumble recovery, one pass deflection and half a sack.

Azaiah Lopez had one tackle, one interception and one pass deflection.

James Morales had one fumble recovery.

“I’m very proud of the overall effort,” Goblirsch said.

Second-place Central Valley and Livingston (2-4, 2-1) will face off this Friday at CUSD Stadium.

Kickoff for the Hawks’ Homecoming game is 7 p.m.

Lathrop 44, CHS 7

Ceres High’s football team faced a tough task during last week’s matchup against Lathrop.

Unable to match the heavily-favored Spartans’ physicality, the upset-minded Bulldogs suffered a 44-7 loss in front of their home crowd Friday evening at CUSD Stadium.

“We didn’t play how I know we can play,” Ceres High safety/receiver Nathaniel St. Macias said. “We could have been far more physical, violent and grittier.”

The last-place Bulldogs dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the WAC standings.

The first-place Spartans improved to 5-1 and 3-0.

“Obviously, it’s not what we wanted this season,” St. Macias said. “Moving forward, we have to finish the season the right way. We have to keep fighting every play. We can’t have a quitter’s mentality. We have to continue to work hard.”

Ceres High mustered just 111 yards of total offense versus Lathrop.

St. Macias rushed for 42 yards and one touchdown on seven carries.

Parker Borges totaled 37 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 3 of 12 pass attempts.

Denairo Osorio caught one pass for 27 yards.

The Bulldogs fumbled three times against the Spartans.

Caelen Eskridge led Ceres High’s defense with six tackles and one forced fumble.

The Bulldogs will face the winless Pacheco Panthers (0-6, 0-3) on the road this Friday in Los Banos.

Kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
