Central Valley’s girls soccer team moved into a tie for place atop the Western Athletic Conference standings last week.

Ceres High ended a four-game losing skid.

“If we want to keep fighting for the league title, we have to win,” Hawks’ head coach Miguel Larranaga said.

Central Valley exacted payback with a 2-1 victory against Beyer on Jan. 27 in Modesto.

The Patriots won the first meeting, 2-1.

“That’s one of the toughest teams in league,” Larranaga said. “We dominated the second game. But we didn’t score that many goals.”

Bella Ayala and Aaralyn Jauregui both netted one goal versus first-place Beyer (18-2-0 and 10-1-0).

Central Valley shut out Livingston 4-0 on the road last Thursday.

The Hawks won the first meeting, 2-0.

“Our defense played an amazing game,” Larranaga said.

Jauregui, Vivian Jimenez, Camilo Orozco and Jocelyn Rivera led Central Valley in scoring with one goal apiece against Livingston (6-13-2, 2-9-0),

The Hawks improved to 12-4-2 overall and 10-1-0 in the Western Athletic Conference standings.

Central Valley is vying for its third straight league title, including second in WAC play.

“It’s in our hands now,” Larranaga said. “We just need to finish strong.”

The Hawks’ final three conference opponents are Johansen, Lathrop and Ceres High.

“We’ve only lost one game in league,” Larranaga said.

“We have a good balance between defenders, midfielders and forwards. We have very strong players. The girls do well under pressure.”

Ceres High climbed to fifth place in the WAC standings after notching wins against Pacheco and Lathrop.

The Bulldogs improved to 5-11-2 overall and 4-5-2 in conference play following Thursday’s 2-1 triumph over the Panthers on Senior Night  at CUSD Stadium.
