Members of Ceres High’s and Central Valley’s cross country programs navigated the ultra-challenging Frogtown Course at the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section Championships on Nov. 8 at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds.

The Hawks had 18 runners race during the Division-I Meet.

The Bulldogs had 14 individuals compete at the Division-III level.

“I’m happy with how everyone performed,” Central Valley head coach Horacio Garcia said.

“Most of our kids set PRs (personal records),” Ceres High leader Owen Brown stated.

Central Valley’s varsity boys program didn’t post a team score due to its two-person lineup.

Senior Frankie Klino was the Hawks’ top finisher.

He placed 57th with a personal-best time of 18 minutes, 11 seconds on the 3-mile course.

“He was two places away from qualifying for the Section finals,” Garcia said. “Unfortunately, he was unable to accomplish his goal. But he did have an awesome season.”

Hawk junior Enoc Reyes (20:04) placed 105th.

Ceres High’s varsity boys took 20th in the team standings.

Sergio Torres was the Bulldogs’ top finisher. He placed 48th (18:01).

Ceres High teammates Andres Marcial (19:02), Anthony Savala (21:08), Erick Henry (23:49) and Luke Knapp (28:12) finished 89th, 128th, 161st and 172nd, respectively.

Ceres High’s and Central Valley’s varsity girls didn’t post team scores due to a lack of numbers.

Clarissa Rivera, Isabella Sabala and Marissa Pacheco represented the Bulldogs.

Rivera was Ceres High’s top finisher. She placed 53rd with a time of 22 minutes, 42 seconds on the 3-mile course.

Rivera advanced to the Section meet.

Sabala (28:49) and Pacheco (31:25) finished 107th and 122nd, respectively.

Courtney Crane was the Hawks’ lone competitor. She placed 115th (37:04).

Central Valley’s sophomore boys placed seventh in the team standings.

The top six teams qualified for the Section meet.

“It’s a great result,” Garcia said.

Diego Gutierrez was the Hawks’ top finisher. He placed 18th with a time of 12 minutes, 17 seconds on the 2-mile course.

Jayden Pires (12:37), Carlos Castaneda (12:38), Alejandro Rodriguez (13:11), Jayden Rodriguez (13:34) and Javier Contreras (13:51) finished 27th, 30th, 59th, 73rd and 78th, respectively.

Gutierrez, Pires and Castaneda secured individual berths to the Section competition.

Jayden Jaimes was the Ceres High sophomore boys team’s top finisher. He placed 13th (12:56).

Elija Villamarin (13:36) and Isaiah Villamarin (18:07) finished 28th and 85th, respectively.

Jaimes and Elija Villamarin both advanced to Sections.

Karen Magallon led Central Valley’s frosh-soph girls team. She placed 51st with a personal-best time of 16 minutes, 49 seconds on the 2-mile course.

Hawk teammates McKenzy Crane (17:14) and Simran Bains (17:34) finished 60th and 61st, respectively.

“I’m very happy with how they finished the season,” Garcia said. “They were very consistent this year.”

Central Valley’s freshman boys placed seventh in the team standings.

Armando Gutierrez was Central Valley’s top finisher. He placed 12th (12:40) on the 2-mile course.

Gutierrez earned an individual berth to the Section meet.

Hawk teammates Julian Botero (13:33), Maximiliano Mendoza (13:50), Alexander Alcantar (14:11), Maximiliano Morfin (14:26) and Edgar Reyes (15:07) finished 33rd, 42nd, 53rd, 58th and 74th, respectively.

Joseph Estrada led Ceres High’s freshman boys team. He placed 40th (16:19).

Johan Navarro (18:02) and Muaz Elhassan (18:17) finished 47th and 48th, respectively.
