Hawks drop pair of games in WAC play

Central Valley's varsity softball team had its playoff hopes dashed last week thanks to back-to-back losses in Western Athletic Conference play.

Pacheco defeated Central Valley 7-1 on Friday in Los Banos.

The fourth-place Hawks dropped to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the WAC standings.

The second-place Panthers improved to 13-8-2 and 5-3.

Central Valley pitcher Scarlett Lloyd gave up three runs-two earned-and four hits with five strikeouts and three walks in five innings.

Pacheco's Autumn Randles limited the Hawks to four hits.

She struck out six and walked none in seven innings.

Lloyd batted 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

Gabby Benenati batted 1-for-1 with one run.

Vanessa Oliver, Brianna Quiroz, Nayeli Pelayo and Elizabeth Robinson all singled.

Third-place Los Banos topped Central Valley 5-1 last Wednesday on the road.

Lloyd gave up five runs-four earned-and eight hits with 12 strikeouts and two walks.

Benenati led the way on offense.

She batted 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Robinson scored one run.
Giulliana Gutierrez batted 1-for-3 with one double.

Lloyd, Oliver and Quiroz all singled.

The top three teams in the WAC secure berths to the playoffs.

Pacheco, Ceres High (5-9, 4-4) and Los Banos (5-10, 4-4) are battling for the final two spots.

Central Valley will close out conference play this week.

The Hawks' final two opponents are Patterson (today) and Ceres High (Thursday).

The Hawks will face the host Bulldogs tomorrow at 4 p.m.
