Central Valley’s softball program continued its run of dominance this past week by winning its seventh straight game.
Ceres High’s softball team lost three of four games.
“The girls really believe in their ability,” said Hawks’ leader Jimmy Bates.
“We’re trying to get better for league,” noted Bulldogs’ Coach Mike Corsaut.
Central Valley rolled to a 15-4 mercy-rule victory over the visiting Riverbank Bruins on April 11 in Ceres.
The non-league game was stopped after six innings.
“There wasn’t a single inning we didn’t put up a run,” according to Bates. “We put constant pressure on them. We put balls in play. Riverbank’s head coach (Jeff Borden) said we were the best hitting team they’ve faced all year. And that was including Oakdale.”
The Hawks improved to 11-2 on the season.
The Bruins dropped to 4-4-2.
Central Valley piled up 14 hits versus Riverbank.
Victoria Lloyd batted 3-for-4 from the plate with one homer, one double, four RBIs and two runs.
Gabriela Delatorre batted 2-for-4 with one homer, two RBIs and three runs.
Allie Peterman batted 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs.
Janessa Godinez improved her pitching record to a career-best 10-1.
She allowed three earned runs and seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in six innings.
Central Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, one in the second, four in the third, two in the fourth, four in the fifth and two in the sixth against Riverbank.
“It’s a testament to our girls competing at the plate,” Bates said.
The Hawks (4-0) will resume the Central California Conference portion of their schedule this week.
First-place Central Valley (4-0) will play host to Merced today and at Atwater on Friday.
Both games will begin at 4 p.m.
The Bulldogs fell to 9-5 on the year after compiling a 1-3 record in the Platinum Bracket of the NorCal Classic in Tracy.
“The competition was really good,” Corsaut said. “Every team is contending for league titles and playoffs.”
Ceres High lost its tournament finale, 10-3, to Cordova on Friday.
Sehren Martinez batted 1-for-2 with one double and one run.
Ava Montesdeoca batted 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Natalie Gomes and Emma Johnson both scored once.
Ceres High edged Escalon 9-7 on Friday.
Kylie Bond improved her pitching record to 6-1.
She totaled four strikeouts and one walk in four innings.
Emma Johnson batted 1-for-2 with one homer, three RBIs and two runs.
Martinez batted 2-for-4 with one double, one RBI and two runs.
Alizae Cole batted 1-for-3 with one double, one RBI and two runs.
Bella Bravo batted 3-for-4 with one double and two RBIs.
Ceres High lost 5-1 to Orestimba on Thursday.
Montesdeoca accounted for the Bulldogs’ lone hit.
Ceres High dropped its tourney opener, 4-3, to Kimball on Thursday.
Montesdeoca batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Martinez and Bravo both batted 1-for-3 with one run.
Cole batted 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Tatum George scored once.
Johnson singled.
The Bulldogs will resume the Western Athletic Conference part of their schedule this week.
Second-place Ceres High (5-1) will play host to Beyer this Thursday at 4 p.m.
