Central Valley’s softball team notched another comeback win in Central California Conference play.

Ceres High suffered its first loss against Western Athletic Conference competition.

Central Valley edged Golden Valley 7-5 in 10 innings on Friday in Ceres.

Down 5-4, Micaela Martinez crushed a walk-off three-run homer over the left-center field fence with one out to secure the victory.

“It was pretty crazy,” first-year head coach Jimmy Bates said.

“Talk about being resilient,” he added. “Micaela had a rough day up until that point.”

First-place Central Valley improved to a program-best 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the Central California Conference standings.

Fourth-place Golden Valley dropped to 2-6 and 1-2.

“Early on, we’re proving we’re a team that should be competing for a playoff spot in our conference. The biggest leap we’ve made is our approach at the plate. The girls have a plan and execute it.”

Central Valley erased deficits of 3-0 and 5-4 versus Golden Valley.

“We competed until the last pitch. That’s been a common thread this year. These girls really trust and believe in each other.”

“We’re never out of a game. We’ve talked about it multiple times. Our bats have been that good so far this year.”

Down 3-0, the Hawks scored four times in the sixth inning.

Gabriela Delatorre and Victoria Lloyd hit back-to-back home runs.

“You could feel the energy shift in our dugout."

Hawk ace pitcher Janessa Godinez improved her record to 7-1.

She had eight strikeouts and two walks in 10 innings.

Godinez allowed four earned runs and six hits.

“She’s really stepped up this year. She’s super reliable. You know she’s going to throw strikes and compete. She’s so valuable in the circle.”

Godinez batted 2-for-5 from the plate on offense against Golden Valley.

Lloyd batted 2-for-3 with one homer, one triple, one RBI and two runs.

Martinez batted 2-for-5 with one homer, three RBIs and two runs.

Priscilla Hamidat collected two singles.

Central Valley will play at first-place Patterson today at 4 p.m.

“It will be a big test for us. We have to continue to prove ourselves. I think we’re flying under the radar. The second time through league, we’ll have a target on our back.”

Ceres High dropped to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the WAC standings after losing 9-2 at Los Banos on Thursday.

The two teams were unbeaten in league play prior to facing off.

The Tigers improved to 5-3 on the season and 2-0 league.

Ceres High pitcher Alize Cole (2-2) gave up just two earned runs and three hits with four strikeouts and five walks against Los Banos.
