Ernesto Martinez, Steve Duran, Antonio Burgos, Adam Victorino, Eliana Tamayo, Kassandra Torres, Alicia Torres, Ayleen Apreza and Cristina Carmona represented Central Valley’s track and field program at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV-V Championships this past week at Riverbank High School.
“I’m really proud of this team and what they were able to do,” head coach Michael Mrgudic said. “To get to that next level (in 2026), they know what they need to do.”
Martinez, Duran, Burgos, Victorino, Tamayo, Apreza, Carmona, Kassandra Torres and Alicia Torres had their seasons and/or careers end at Divisionals.
The top six combined Division IV-V placers advanced to Masters.
Central Valley’s girls 4x800 relay team of Tamayo, Apreza, Kassandra Torres and Alicia Torres finished in fifth place with a time of 11 minutes, 18 seconds at the Division-IV meet.
They lowered their school record by six seconds.
“They ran their best time,” Mrgudic said.

They posted their second-fastest time of the season.
Tamayo placed 12th in the 200 with a time of 27.79 seconds during the preliminaries.
She set a personal record in the event.
“It was her first time under 28 seconds,” Mrgudic said. “She was two or three spots away from making finals.”
“She reached a new level of speed this year,” he added.
Tamayo will be lost to graduation.
“She embodies the CV culture in the way she encourages teammates,” Mrgudic said. “She’s a hard worker. She sets high goals. She has a great passion for the sport.”
Carmona, a senior, placed eighth in the girls shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 31/2 inches. She just missed qualifying for Masters.
“It was her first year throwing,” Mrgudic said. “She’s talented. She has a good work ethic. She believes in herself.”

“They all ran the best 400s of their lives on Wednesday,” Mrgudic said. “They got experience. All of them are returning next year except for Antonio.”
