JV Hawks begin WAC play this Friday

Central Valley High School's junior-varsity boys basketball team compiled a perfect record during the preseason.

The Hawks improved to 11-0 on the year with an 81-11 win over Excel Academy on Dec. 23 in Ceres.

"We've had guys step up for us and play really well," head coach Jordan Dickson said. "They have a lot of energy, even on the bench. They're loud and clap for each other."

Central Valley had 12 players score against Excel Academy, including Harinder Sidhu (12 points), Jonathan Barragan (11), Nick Garcia (nine), David Glukhovskiy (nine), Erik Mejia (nine), Jaspreet Singh (seven), Willie Soriano (six), Shan Chahal (five), Oso Fregoso (four), Jacob Guerrero (three), Chris Perkins (three) and Rodney Stahl (three).

The Hawks led 75-9 heading into the fourth quarter.

Central Valley outscored Excel Academy 35-4 in the first quarter.

Central Valley beat visiting Brookside Christian 79-24 on Dec. 22.

Sidhu had a game-high 20 points.

Glukhovskiy, Singh, Barragan and Fregoso finished with 15, 14, eight and six points, respectively.

Shan Chahal and Ralph Afortunado collected four points each.

Garcia and Chase Winchester chipped in with three points apiece.

Stahl had two points.

The Hawks will begin Western Athletic Conference play this Friday.

Central Valley will play host to El Capitan at 6 p.m.

"I have a lot of faith in them doing very well this season," Dickson said.
