Ceres High’s boys wrestling program hosted a tournament earlier this month.
The Bulldogs placed 10th with a team score of 219 at the Ceres Invitational, staged Dec. 20 at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.
The crosstown-rival Central Valley Hawks totaled 63 points en route to a second-place finish.
The Pitman Pride (322.5) won the team title.
“Overall, I think we did okay,” Ceres High head coach Adam Borges said. “I was hoping to get more kids on the podium.”
“I’m proud of them,” Central Valley leader Rob Beckhart said. “They’re doing everything they can to show they can compete at the local level.”
The top six wrestlers in each weight class were rewarded.
The Bulldogs had one wrestler medal at their home event.
Eleven of the Hawks’ 13 grapplers took home medals.
“These kids work hard every day,” Beckhart said. “The only day they had off during the Christmas break was Sundays and Christmas day. They’re excited about what they’re doing. We need to keep pushing if we’re going to accomplish our goals.”
Ceres High’s Parker Borges was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Upper Weight Wrestler.
He took first overall in the 150-pound weight class.
Borges claimed the 144-pound title at the 2024 Ceres Invitational.
He added another CHS tourney championship ring to his collection.
“It was one of his small goals,” coach Borges said. “He wanted to go back to back.”

“Parker went out there and took care of business,” Adam Borges said. “He wrestled a total of three minutes.”
Borges is currently listed as honorable mention in the state rankings.
