Central Valley’s girls golf program had two players earn all-league honors during the fall sports season.

Seniors Elia Hernandez and Emily Mariani were rewarded based on their scoring averages during the course of the 2025 Western Athletic Conference season.

“I’m not surprised,” Hawks’ head coach Kelly Wheelock said. “They did a great job this year.”

Hernandez was named to the WAC First Team for the second year in a row.

She ranked in the top six in the conference’s individual standings.

“Elia’s mindset was different this year,” Wheelock said. “She bought in. She didn’t miss a match. Mentally, she didn’t get too high or too low. She was even-keeled. That’s what you need in this sport.”

Mariani was named to the WAC Second Team.

She was a top-10 performer during the conference season.

She missed first-team all-league honors by 1.2 strokes.

“She had to go to a college visit in San Diego,” Wheelock said. “Unfortunately, that was on the same day as the WAC Midseason Tournament.”

Hernandez and Mariani helped lead Central Valley to new heights against conference competition this year.

The Hawks placed a program-best third in the WAC’s overall standings.

The top three teams in the WAC qualified for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-IV Tournament.

Central Valley also topped Lathrop for the first time in program history.

“It’s our best season to date,” Wheelock said. “We qualified for Divisionals as a team. We’ve never done that all the years I’ve been here.”

Hernandez and Mariani capped off their four-year prep golf careers at the Division-IV Tournament on Oct. 28 at Micke Grove Golf Course.

Hernandez shot a team-best 108 on the par-72 course.

Mariani, Rico, and Maldonado posted scores of 113, 133 and 168, respectively.

Hernandez earned first-team all-WAC recognition senior and junior years.

“Her golf game has improved a lot. She has a solid foundation at home. That’s where it starts. She’s a competitor. She hits the ball well. She has a good attitude. She’s a great kid.”

An honorable-mention conference selection as a junior, Mariani showed improvement this season by being named to the WAC Second Team.

“She’s improved a lot. She has a very, competitive mindset.”

Hernandez and Mariani also qualified for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-IV Tournament the past two years.

Hernandez, Mariani and Hawk teammate Nevaeh Perez will be lost to graduation this June.

“It’s going to hurt losing Elia, Emily and Nevaeh. Their leadership was phenomenal.”
