Ceres High’s football team earned a much-needed win against Pacheco on the road this past week.
Central Valley had its Homecoming spoiled by Livingston.
The Bulldogs snapped a four-game losing streak with a 21-15 victory over the Panthers Friday evening in Los Banos.
“We were locked in all week at practice,” Ceres High two-way lineman Jelo Estrada. “We showed up ready to work. We were mentally prepared for this game.”
The fourth-place Bulldogs improved to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the Western Athletic Conference.
The last-place Panthers dropped to 0-7 and 0-4.
“Them scheduling their Homecoming against us was extra motivation,” Estrada said. “It was a business trip.”
Ceres High’s defense forced two turnovers against Pacheco.
The Bulldogs shut out the Panthers during the opening three quarters.
Ceres High outscored Pacheco 14-0 in the first half.
David Rodriguez led the Bulldogs’ defense with two interceptions, two pass deflections and one tackle.
He returned a pick 51 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Dakota Pickett collected three tackles and one sack.
Ceres High’s offensive line turned in a dominant performance against Pacheco.
The Bulldogs piled up a season-high 245 yards on 32 carries.
Nathaniel St. Macias rushed for 114 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries.
Parker Borges passed for 142 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Adrian Carrillo’s lone reception resulted in a 21-yard TD in the fourth quarter.
Eric De Lozada caught eight passes for 110 yards.
Leo Ayala made all three of his point-after kicks.
“Overall, we did well as a team,” Estrada said. “Mentally, we were locked in the whole time.”
Ceres High will face second-place Grace Davis (4-3, 3-1) during this Friday’s Homecoming game at CUSD Stadium. Kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
Livingston 34, Central Valley 20
The Wolves pulled away for a 34-20 win over the Hawks Friday evening at CUSD Stadium.
“Obviously, it’s not the outcome we wanted,” Central Valley head coach Derrick Goblirsch said. “But the guys played hard. That’s all you can ask.”
The Hawks (3-4, 2-2) dropped to third place in the Western Athletic Conference standings.
The Wolves (3-4, 3-1) moved into a three-way tie for second place in the WAC with Johansen and Grace Davis.
Central Valley and Livingston combined for 517 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
“They beat us at our own game,” Goblirsch said. “It’s frustrating.”
Sebastian Maldonado led the Hawks’ rushing attack with 105 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.
Central Valley’s Erick Mendoza had 49 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries.
Hawk Emanuel Luna finished with 57 yards on 16 carries.
Central Valley trailed 21-14 at halftime.
The Hawks allowed two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Livingston grinded out a win against the Central Valley.
“It was a battle,” Goblirsch said.
The Hawks will travel to Modesto this Friday to play the Johansen Vikings (4-3, 3-1). Kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
