Ceres High’s softball team improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Western Athletic Conference this past week.

Central Valley moved to 6-2 on the season.

Ceres High beat Johansen by the 10-run mercy rule in WAC play on March 20 in Modesto.

The Bulldogs posting an 11-1 win over the Vikings in six innings.

“That’s what we’re supposed to do,” Ceres High head coach Mike Corsaut said. “We took care of business. The girls competed.”

Ceres High had seven different players collect at least one hit.

Alizae Cole batted 2-for-4 from the plate with one double, two RBIs and three runs.

Nani Sagapolu batted 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs.

Bella Bravo batted 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs.

Cole enjoyed a productive outing at pitcher versus the Vikings.

She had nine strikeouts and one walk in six innings.

Cole (2-1) allowed no runs and two hits.

The Hawks posted a 2-1 record while competing against non-league opponents.

Central Valley notched a 9-3 win against the Hughson Huskies on Saturday at the George Costa Ball Field Complex.

Hawk pitcher Janessa Godinez (6-1) allowed one earned run and three hits with three strikeouts and three walks in four innings.

Godinez also contributed on offense as she batted 1-for-3 from the plate with one RBI and one run.

Micaela Martinez batted 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run.

Gabriela Delatorre batted 2-for-2 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs.

Central Valley edged Beyer 10-8 in four innings on Saturday at Costa Fields.

Godinez had four strikeouts and no walks at pitcher.

She batted 3-for-4 with two runs.

Victoria Lloyd batted 3-for-3 with one home run, one double, two RBIs and two runs.

Delatorre batted 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBIs and two runs.

Martinez batted 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs.

Central Valley lost 17-14 to Gregori on Friday in Modesto.

Hawk starting pitcher Linda Sandoval earned a no-decision.

She had one strikeout and two walks in 41/3 innings.

Lloyd batted 4-for-5 from the plate with three doubles, four RBIs and two runs.

Jannet Valencia batted 4-for-4 with one double, one RBI and four runs.

Godinez batted 2-for-5 with one RBI and three runs.


BASEBALL

Central Valley’s baseball team won two of its three games last week.

Ceres High collected its second victory.

The Hawks earned a much-needed split while playing a doubleheader versus Atwater on Thursday.

Central Valley pitcher Diego Delahoya allowed no runs and three hits with five strikeouts and four walks as the Hawks shut out the Falcons 4-0 during Game 2.

Hawk Juan Alonzo led the way on offense.

He batted 2-for-2 from the plate with two doubles and two RBIs.

Jake Olson batted 1-for-3 with one double and one run.

Atwater edged Central Valley 2-1 during Game 1.

Hawk Ryan Estermann gave up one earned run and four hits with two strikeouts and no walks at pitcher.

He batted 1-for-3 from the plate with one run.

Garret Garcia batted 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Central Valley cruised to a 10-3 victory over East Union in non-conference play on Saturday in Manteca.

Alonzo was the winning pitcher. He surrendered just one run and four hits with four strikeouts and three walks in six innings.

Delahoya batted 2-for-3 from the plate with two runs.

Garret Garcia batted 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Estermann batted 2-for-4 with one double, one RBI and two runs.

The Bulldogs topped visiting Beyer 8-5 during Game 2 of the Western Athletic Conference series on Friday at Art McRae Field.

Game 1 was moved from March 22 to this Saturday due to wet weather. The contest will be played at 10 a.m. in Modesto.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-6 overall and 2-1 in the WAC standings following last week’s win against the Patriots.

Ceres High pitcher Landyn Hudson totaled four strikeouts in four innings.

Vincent Castrejon batted 3-for-4 from the plate with two doubles and one walks.

Joshua Prestridge collected three singles.


BOYS TENNIS

Central Valley’s boys tennis team new-look boys tennis team is still searching for its first league win.

The Hawks dropped to 0-4 in the Central California Conference after losing 7-2 at Patterson on March 23.

“We’re struggling,” coach Nimrat Chahal said. “We’re inexperienced. Everybody is new besides our top four players.”

Jesus Hernandez defeated Malik Nelson 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 in No. 2 singles play.

Brayan Rodriguez and Nicolas Gil defeated Dylan Sanchez and Neil Dobard 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 in No. 1 doubles play.
