Ceres High varsity girls tennis standouts Tania Garfias and Jillian Jimenez didn’t disappoint at the Western Athletic Conference Singles Tournament on Oct. 28 in Ceres.

The two seniors advanced to the quarterfinals.

“They both played their best,” head coach Michelle Casey said.

Garfias topped Pacheco’s Litzy Rivera 7-5, 6-4 in the opening round.

She lost 6-2, 6-1 to Los Banos’ Sarah White.

A four-year player with the Bulldogs, Garfias compiled a 9-7 record against WAC competition this fall.

“She did great the whole season,” Casey said.

Jimenez defeated Pacheco’s Jackie Gomez 6-4, 6-1 in the first round.

She lost 6-3, 6-0 to Los Banos’ Trinity Meza.

Jimenez posted a 7-8 record versus WAC opponents in 2019.

“Her consistency with her game play in general causes her to be an amazing tennis player,” Casey said. “Creating new strategies during each match helped her improve.”

Garfias and Jimenez faced tough opponents in the quarterfinals.

White and Meza both lost in the semifinals.

“Our main goal was to improve and win as many individual games as possible against Los Banos,” Casey said.
