Ceres High’s and Central Valley’s softball teams opened Western Athletic Conference play with back-to-back wins this past week.
“I’m proud of them,” Bulldogs’ head coach Marcos Duran stated. “The girls played really well. We had good pitching, offense and defense.”
Ceres High improved to 4-3-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the WAC standings following Friday’s 19-0 mercy-rule win over host Johansen.
The Vikings dropped to 0-5-0 and 0-3-0.
“We were battle-tested going into league,” Duran said. “We had a tough non-conference schedule.”
The Bulldogs posted a team batting average of .469 versus the Vikings.
Ceres High collected 15 hits.
Amaia Pritchett batted 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs.
Kyleigh Robinson batted 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs.
Sami Alcaraz batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs.
Presley Vierra batted 1-for-3 with one double, three RBIs and two runs.
Gabby Cole batted 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs.
The Bulldogs also capitalized on eight Johansen errors.
“Everybody was hitting,” said Duran, whose team led 18-0 through the first two innings of play. “That makes it fun.”
Ceres High pitcher Lizzie Figueroa had 10 strikeouts and no walks in five innings.
She allowed no runs and three hits.
“She did great,” Duran said. “She was hitting her spots.”
Ceres High pounded 15 hits while cruising to a 9-1 victory against visiting Livingston on March 18.
The Bulldogs led 5-0 through the first four innings of the contest versus the Wolves (4-4, 0-2).
Ceres High batted .441 (15-for-34) from the plate as a team.
Figueroa batted 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one run.
Briona Bravo batted 1-for-4 with one double, one RBI and two runs.
Gabby Cole batted 4-for-4 with one RBI and two runs.
Figueroa totaled eight strikeouts and none walks in the circle.
She gave up no runs and two hits in four innings.
“Lizzie mixes speeds,” Duran said. “She’s really effective.”
Central Valley improved to 3-5 overall and 2-0 in league after rolling to a 17-1 win over Pacheco on Friday in Ceres.
Hawk pitcher Gabriela Delatorre gave up one run and four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in five innings against the Panthers (0-5, 0-2).
The Hawks pounded 16 hits on offense.
Delatorre batted 1-for-4 with one double, one RBI and two runs.
Reylena Herrera batted 2-for-4 with one double, three RBIs and two runs.
Emma Padilla batted 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs.
Selene Valencia batted 1-for-1 with three RBIs and one run.
Monster Prudhel batted 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Selah Chesney batted 2-for-4 with one triple, one RBI and two runs.
Central Valley defeated Grace Davis 21-1 on March 18 in Modesto.
The Hawks piled up 18 hits on offense versus the Spartans (0-5, 0-3).
Chesney batted 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBIs and two runs.
Delatorre batted 2-for-3 with one home run, one double, two RBIs and four runs.
Emma Padilla batted 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs.
Brooklynn Steeley pitched a complete game.
She surrendered no earned runs and five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in five innings.
Central Valley will face Livingston this Friday in Ceres.
Ceres High will host Lathrop today and play at Pacheco on Friday.
All games will begin at 4 p.m.
