Ceres High’s girls tennis team lost 8-1 to Grace Davis on Sept. 23 in Modesto.
The last-place Bulldogs suffered a 7-2 loss while battling the third-place Spartans on Thursday in Ceres.
“It was a little more competitive (this time),” Ceres High first-year head coach Jesse Apodaca said. “I switched our lineup up. I had to make adjustments with Tatiana (Rivas) being out for the season. I’m slotting people in who match up better.”
The Bulldogs dropped to 1-9 in the Western Athletic Conference standings.
The Spartans improved to 5-3 in WAC play.
Ceres High won one of six singles and one of three doubles matches versus Grace Davis last week.
Bulldog Martina Meglioli topped Spartan Madeline Micheletti 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (10-2) in No. 2 singles play.
Meglioli dealt Micheletti just her second loss of the season.
“She (Meglioli) made some adjustments,” Apodaca said. “She’s a smart player. She figures things out on her own.”
Meglioli, a foreign-exchange student from Italy, has won four singles matches this year.
“She’s definitely been a bright spot,” Apodaca said.
Dania Gallo Padilla and Xochiti Gonzalez Hernandez topped Hamsa Alasadi 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (11-9) in No. 1 doubles play.
Gallo Padilla and Gonzalez Hernandez overcame a slow start.
“They were trying too hard in the first set,” Apodaca said. “They started playing smarter in the second set. The third set could have gone either way.”
