Central Valley’s girls tennis team put the finishing touches on another perfect Western Athletic Conference regular season last week.
The Hawks repeated as unbeaten WAC champions after shutting out the crosstown-rival Bulldogs 9-0 on Senior Day at home on Thursday.
“The kids worked hard,” Central Valley head coach Nimrat Chahal said. “They showed up. They listened. They were committed. They dominated.”
The Hawks have won their last 26 league matches dating back to last season.
Central Valley compiled a 14-0 record versus WAC competition this fall.
The Hawks went 12-0 in conference play in 2024.
Ceres High tied for last place with Johansen in the league standings with a 1-13 record under first-year head coach Jesse Apodaca’s guidance.
The Bulldogs didn’t field a team a season ago due to a lack of interest.
Ceres High has had four different head coaches since 2018.
“Last year, we had some close matches,” Chahal said. “This year, we dominated. I knew we would be pretty good because we had so many returners. We had a solid group. They were ready to compete. They were hungry for wins.”
The Hawks swept all six singles and three doubles matches against the Bulldogs last week.
“We did what we were supposed to do. They’re rebuilding over there. Jesse is doing a good job.”
Central Valley’s Aleena Higle topped Ceres High’s Alyson Brumbaugh 6-2, 6-3, in No. 1 singles play.
Harkiran Sandhu topped Martin Meglioli 6-0, 6-2 in No. 2 singles play.
Aaliyah Jauregui topped Nerisha Singh 6-0, 6-1 in No. 3 singles play.
Valerie Espinoza topped Kassandra Hernandez 6-0, 6-3 in No. 4 singles play.
Serath Birring topped Xaimara Corona Mejia 6-1, 6-2 in No. 5 singles play.
Roxana Orozco topped Denisse Gonzalez 6-2, 6-1 in No. 6 singles play.
Genesis Velazquez Pedraza and Illyana Vidal topped Dania Gallo Padilla and Xochiti Gonzalez Hernandez 6-1, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles play.
Valeria Sanchez Luna and Selena Cubillo topped Carmen Medina and Aileen Rocha 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 doubles play.
Emily Carranza and Jameelah Martin Del Campo topped Tatiana Alvarado and Cazandra Fregoso 6-2, 7-5 in No. 3 doubles play.
Central Valley’s 10 senior players were recognized before their final regular-season home match.
Higle, Sandhu, Jauregui, Orozco, Cubillo, Sanchez Luna, Vidal, Martin Del Campo, Elizabeth Alvarez and Jaqueline Padilla posed for a picture prior to competing against the Bulldogs.
Higle, Espinoza and Vidal were four-year contributors.
Sandhu, Jauregui and Orozco suited up for the team for three seasons.
Cubillo was a second-year player.
Alvarez, Martin Del Campo and Padilla were newcomers.
“They’re the most successful, four-year class in terms of performance,” said Chahal. “They’re the only group to win back-to-back league championships and a playoff match. It’s not easy to replicate what they did.”
“The standard is high. Hopefully we build a more successful program because of the impact these girls had.”
