Central Valley’s boys tennis team remained unbeaten in Western Athletic Conference play last week.
The Hawks improved to 5-0 in the WAC standings with a 9-0 victory over the Johansen Vikings on Friday in Modesto.
“We’re sitting in a good spot right now,” head coach Nimrat Chahal said.
Central Valley swept all six singles and three doubles matches while shutting out Johansen.
Avori Ortega prevailed 6-4, 6-4 in No. 1 singles play.
Silas Rodriguez prevailed 6-3, 6-4 in No. 2 singles play.
Roman Parodi prevailed 6-0, 6-1 in No. 3 singles play.
Osvaldo Cisneros prevailed 6-2, 6-0 in No. 4 singles play.
Alexander Alvarez prevailed 6-0, 6-3 in No. 5 singles play.
Jaylan Tagadaya prevailed 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles play.
Abram Munguia and Gurtaj Saran prevailed 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles play.
Simardeep Malhi and Sahib Patter prevailed 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 doubles play.
Andrew Arevalo and Cristian Gudino prevailed by forfeit in No. 3 doubles play.
SWIMMING
Ceres High battled Johansen on Friday in Modesto with the girls team suffering a 74-68 loss.
The Bulldogs dropped to 2-2 in the Western Athletic Conference standings.
“It was close,” Ceres High head coach Joseph Rodriguez said. “I’m not disappointed with the results. We have a young team. Some people just got in the pool last week.”
Bulldog Jessie Blevins placed first in the 200 free (2:31) and 500 free (6:58) versus the Vikings.
Heaven Vasquez placed second in the 200 IM (3:42) and 100 fly (1:55).
Layla Abraham placed second in the 100 back (1:29).
Cazandra Fregoso placed second in the 50 free (39.06).
Randee Ramirez placed second in the 200 free (3:25) and fifth in the 50 free (41.68).
Alana Festa placed third in the 100 breast (1:43).
Nayeli Vizcarra Reyes placed third in the 100 free (1:31) and fourth in the 100 back (2:13).
Natalie Franco placed third in the 100 back (2:08) and fourth in the 50 free (41.51).
Ceres High’s 400 free relay team of Randee Ramirez, Layla Abraham, Evelynn Tubera and Jessie Blevins placed first.

Ceres High’s boys team dropped to 2-2 in the WAC after sustaining a 67-46 loss.
“I’m more than happy with our performance,” Rodriguez said. “Great times for everybody.”
Bulldog Jaxon Merrill placed first in the 200 IM (2:40) and second in the 100 fly (1:08) versus the Vikings.
Daniel Tubera placed first in the 100 breast (1:19) and second in the 50 free (27.27).
Jose Carranza placed first in the 100 free (1:09) and second in the 50 free (28.64).
Julian Ramirez placed second in the 100 free.
Isaiah Villamarin placed fifth in the 100 free (1:55).
Ceres High’s 200 free relay team of Carranza, Ramirez, Tubera and Merrill placed first (1:53).

TRACK & FIELD
Members of Ceres High’s and Central Valley’s track and field programs competed at the Stanislaus County Championships on Friday at Riverbank High School.
Ceres High’s boys totaled 63.5 points en route to a third-place finish in the team standings.
Central Valley (34) took 10th.
Cashton Almeida, Adrian Huesca, Anthony Santillan, Leo Baez, Nathaniel St. Macias and David Rodriguez-Ochoa led the Bulldogs.
Almeida placed second in the high jump (5-10) and 400 (50.72), and third in the 200 (23.26).
Ceres High’s 4x100 relay team of Huesca, Santillan, Baez and St. Macias placed third (44.86).
Rodriguez-Ochoa placed third in the 110 hurdles (15.72), fourth in the 300 hurdles (44.90) and 18th in the triple jump (35-2).
David Alvarado, Ernesto Martinez and Steve Duran led the Hawks.
Alvarado placed third in the discus (123-8).
Martinez placed third in the 400 (51.95) and fifth in the 200 (23.38)
Duran placed fourth in the 110 hurdles (16.48), ninth in the high jump (5-6) and 11th in the long jump (19-3).
Ceres High’s and Central Valley’s girls placed 12th and 15th, respectively.
The Bulldogs and Hawks finished with team scores of 31 and two.
Jayden Garcia and Abigail Schultz led Ceres High.
Garcia placed second in the 400 (1:02), and third in the 300 hurdles (50.04) and`100 hurdles (16.89).
Schultz placed third in the pole vault (7-0), 13th in the triple jump (28-61/2) and 19th in the long jump (14-0).
Andrea Tejeda and Airiena Martinez led Central Valley.
Tejeda placed ninth in the 400 (1:06).
Martinez placed ninth in the 100 (13.53) and 12th in the long jump (14-91/2).
BOYS GOLF
Central Valley’s and Ceres High’s boys golf programs opened the Western Athletic Conference season this past week in Modesto.
The Hawks, Bulldogs and Pacheco Panthers hosted the WAC’s first cluster tournament on March 11 at St. Stanislaus.
Central Valley posted a team score of 378 en route to a first-place finish.
Ceres High (417) took sixth.
“We got a pretty good team,” Hawks’ head coach William Bossard said.
“We’re going to get better,” Bulldogs’ leader Ron Edwards stated. “That’s the good thing. We have to practice more.”
Diego Mendoza led Central Valley with a 71. Central Valley teammates Maximiliano Mendoza, Aldolfo Diaz, William Montez and Cristian Bossard shot 74, 75, 78 and 80, respectively.
Isaac Gonzalez led the Bulldogs with a 75. Cooper Perez (77), Landon Teny (84), Alexander Ortega (87) and Jayson Trevino (94) rounded out Ceres High’s scorecard.
BASEBALL
Central Valley earned three wins, including two during the opening week of Western Athletic Conference play.
The Hawks defeated the Pacheco Panthers 8-1 during Game 1 of their WAC series on March 10 in Ceres.
Noah Maldonado allowed no earned runs and two hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks while starring at pitcher.
He also contributed on offense.
Maldonado batted 2-for-3 with one double, three RBIs and one run.
Central Valley cruised to an 8-2 victory over Pacheco on March 12 in Los Banos.
The Hawks improved to 2-0 in the conference standings.
Central Valley pitcher Dominic Delatorre gave up one earned run and two hits with six strikeouts and three walks in four innings.
Ceres High won a pair of games against WAC-rival Johansen.
The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 in the WAC standings following its 15-0 shutout of the Vikings on March 12 at Art McRae Field.
Ceres High topped Johansen 12-2 on March 10 in Modesto.
SOFTBALL
Hurt by six errors, Ceres High lost 18-8 while playing host to Oakdale on March 10.
The Bulldogs dropped to 2-3-1 in preseason play.
Ceres High collected nine hits against Oakdale (4-5).
Bella Bravo batted 3-for-4 with one double, four RBIs and one run.
Central Valley moved to 1-5 overall after winning one of three games last week.
The Hawks routed the Riverbank Bruins 13-3 on the road in six innings on March 9.
Central Valley’s Gabriela Delatorre pitched a complete game. She gave up just two earned runs and five hits with five strikeouts and two walks in six innings.
The Hawks pounded 10 hits and committed just one error.
Selah Chesney batted 2-for-4 with one homer, one double, three RBIs and two runs.
