Brian Holt placed first at the Mother Lode Fair destruction derby in Sonora on July 18.
Holt, 31, participated in several derbies at the Stanislaus County Fair last week.
On Wednesday, Brian finished second in his heat and eighth overall in "Traditional Turmoil," the first night of destruction derby in Turlock. He won $175.
"I lost reverse on my transmission," said Brian, who moved to Ceres from Turlock four months ago. "That's what stopped me."
Brian revamped his Lincoln in five days. He put more than 40 hours of labor and $300 into the car.
On Thursday, he participated in "Metal Mayhem," the second night of destruction derby. Holt failed to place in two events.
He broke a timing chain on his 1977 Chrysler Cordoba in the premier Used Car heat.
He broke an axle on his 1982 Chrysler New Yorker in the 1980s heat.
"I got three hits total on both cars," Brian said. "It was a terrible night for me."
Brian started competing in destruction derbies when he was 15 years old.
His father, Doug Holt Sr., introduced him to the sport.
"My dad did it for years in Sonora," Brian said. "When he stopped doing it when he was 46, me and my brothers picked it up and kind of went crazy with it."
Brian and his three brothers, Doug Jr., 32, David, 32 and Brandon, 22, have had a lot of success.
"We're considered cheaters because we do so good," Brian said.
"I used to get my butt kicked the first six or seven years when I first started."
All four brothers have won the Turlock derby
Doug took first for the first time on Wednesday. On Thursday, he placed second in the premier Used Car heat and won the 1960s-1970s heat.
"Doug is the most consistent," Brian said.
Brandon took second in the main event on Wednesday. He collected $500.
David placed first in his heat on Wednesday. He won $100.
The Holts gather at their father's seven-acre ranch in Oakdale before competing. That's where they work on their cars.
"We all help one another at the races and at home," Brian said. "Even our dad helps us out a bit."
The Holts have participated in more than 100 derbies.
"That's our hobby," Brian said. "We run about 8 to 12 derbies a year. We go all over."
In September, several Holts are planning to drive at the Mariposa County Fair.
