Oakdale posted a 17-point victory over the Central Valley High JV girls basketball team on Dec. 9. The Hawks edged the Mustangs 24-23 on Jan. 10 in Ceres.
“We played smart,” Central Valley coach Jesse Padilla said.
Desiree Vasquez led the Hawks (1-3) with 11 points, including two 3-pointers. Miranda Espinoza scored five points, including the game-winning basket from the middle of the key with 2.2 seconds left in regulation. Crystal Gutierrez and Latrisha Jordan had four points apiece.
“Ball control was key,” Padilla said. “We walked it up. They walked it up. I knew it was going to be close. Luckily, we were making our shots. We also broke their press.”
